Reporting to: College Principal

Contractual Hours: 37.5 Hours Monday to Friday (Some flexibility will be required)

This is a maternity cover. Starting mid/end August 2026 (dates TBC) FTC for 9 months - 1 year.

BN1 Arts: Brighton’s Centre of Excellence for Music and Performing Arts. BN1 Arts is a Brighton-based college with a mission to create a vibrant community where aspiring talents and established industry figures can converge, fostering a dynamic environment that nurtures growth and success. Our focus is to provide 16-19-year-olds passionate about music and performing arts with industry-led training across Extended Diplomas in the Creative Music Industry and Creative and Performing Arts. Person Specification

We are seeking an experienced, energetic and highly motivated individual, with a strong knowledge in both the music industry and performing arts sectors who will support the Further Education team in successfully delivering the Further Education curriculum, assessment programme and GCSE exam provision for BN1 Arts. The post holds considerable responsibility and applicants should have at least two years’ experience in FE education as well as being an inspirational professional themselves. The person is responsible for day-to-day oversight and coordination of the Further Education Curriculum Assessment Programme, working closely with the College Principal to ensure all aspects of these courses are functioning to the highest standards. The role will necessitate strong communication with the program leaders, tutors and curriculum teams to ensure teaching and learning is of a high standard. The successful candidate will be a team player who is used to working to tight deadlines and ensuring that teaching staff and students alike are able to meet exacting standards of educational excellence. The role will also entail the candidate to be part of the widening development of the BN1 Arts brand, actively building and supporting the implantation of new educational programs with external partnerships, industry, stakeholders and new BN1Arts colleges.

Essential Criteria

  • At least two years’ experience within the Further Education sector
  • Experience with Assessment and Curriculum Design
  • Experience with Further Education Quality Assurance Processes and wider accountabilities
  • Good IT skills and experience with Digital Learning

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience maintaining and controlling budgets.
  • Experience in the creative sector and industry experience
  • A first degree or Masters level qualification
  • A Teaching qualification or willingness to gain one

Key Accountabilities

You will report on a day-to-day basis to the College Principal and will be expected to meet the following key accountabilities:

  • Oversight and management of Further Education curriculum to ensure quality and timely delivery of study programmes to support retention and success.
  • Oversight and management of the all assessment programmes, tracking of learner progress, assessment calendars, timetabling of assessment, and both individual and cohort success.
  • In conjunction with the team, design, implementation and administration of Further Education assessment programme, in accordance with BN1 Arts procedures, EIF, Awarding Body and Partner College requirements for Further Education.
  • Oversight and management of Further Education assessment evidence.
  • Oversight and management of budgets as and where required.
  • Providing support to the College Principal in the management and administration of all partnership responsibilities including compliance, quality assurance and curriculum and assessment.
  • Attendance at Further Education Curriculum Steering Group, forums and other meetings (CMT etc.) as necessary.
  • Taking minutes of meetings and distributing.
  • Maintaining all relevant course administrative paperwork in line with BN1 Arts policy.
  • Provide support to centre Lead IV to ensure successful implementation and outcomes of Internal and External Verification processes.
  • Assisting the College Principal in management and delegation of duties to relevant HoDs and tutors.
  • Assisting in training and development of sessional tutors responsible for delivery of Further Education modules and assessment. Including delivering standardisation training.
  • Oversight and management of marking, including creation of marksheets, internal verification of grading and returning feedback to students.
  • Ensuring timely population and ongoing management of BN1 Arts VLE for Further Education student cohorts with appropriate materials to support teaching and learning.
  • To assist in the development of new programmes to validation, course materials, schemes of work and lesson plans as required by the Senior Team and College Principal.
  • Ensuring Quality of Teaching and Learning: working with the Student Support team to monitor learner satisfaction levels, to elicit feedback from students through regular satisfaction surveys and focus groups, working to resolve any issues forthcoming.
  • Assisting the College Principal to develop and disseminate teaching and learning strategies to ensure full engagement and achievement of all students.
  • Working with College Principal to implement and deliver tutor training sessions to ensure quality and accuracy of teaching and assessment.
  • To support and update all Academic related policies in line with BN1 Arts strategies, EIF, DFE, Awarding Bodies and Partner Colleges.
  • Tracking and reporting of data, with a view to sharing information to all stakeholders as and when required, including AI submissions.

Student Support

  • Working with the Student Services team to monitor attendance and respond rapidly to absenteeism in line with BN1 Arts policy, and acting on student absence for assessment purposes.
  • Monitoring current student achievement and delivering an agreed number of tutorials if required.
  • Working with Program Leaders to monitor and implement learning plans to support students.

Student Induction and Events

  • Attend student induction and enrolment events for each programme and assist with the process.
  • Ensure that appropriate induction information is sent out to students by the admissions team.
  • Assist in planning and oversight of the BN1 Arts Induction schedule for Further Education students, ensuring content and activity are appropriate and in-line with other induction programmes being scheduled.
  • Attend any recruitment of conversion activities including Open Days, parent’s evening and other Further Education-centric events as required.

The successful candidate will comply with and implement as appropriate, all of BN1 arts policies and procedures, with particular reference Safeguarding, Equality and Diversity, and Health and Safety. As a centre of excellence for young learners we are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of our students and expect all staff to share this commitment. Therefore all successful appointments are subject to referencing, an Enhanced DBS check and Barred List check and a Right to Work check. Anybody who works in an education setting has a duty to protect the welfare of the young people that attend. The successful candidate will complete Safeguarding and Prevent training and be aware of BN1 Arts policies on safeguarding and child protection. They must also engage with inset and training days to stay informed of any new developments related to safeguarding in order to ensure the safeguarding and wellbeing of all.
