At BMW, our engineers re-imagine the future of mobility every day with pioneering new visions. But it takes real process-driven, creative problem solvers with exceptional engineering know-how and an uncompromising eye for detail to ensure those visions work like a dream on the road. As a senior performance engineer for race car vehicle dynamics, you will be part of BMW’s professional motorsport R&D group, that pushes the competitiveness of our race cars (LMDh, GT) to the limits and beyond.
You will conduct vehicle simulations from subsystem level to complete vehicle assemblies and correlate results with bench and track test measurements. You will develop tools and simulation software and extend our virtual model data bases for laptime SIL and DIL applications.
What awaits you?
- You are responsible for the performance development, from the behavior of individual subsystems to overall vehicle performance.
- You will expand and maintain our race cars’ model databases (LMDh, GT) from subsystems to complete vehicle assemblies (LMDh, GT).
- You will conduct multi-body simulations (MBS) and lap time simulations, validate and correlate results and derive optimization potentials to improve racing performance and competitiveness.
- You will develop our off-the-shelf and internally developed multi-body simulation tools (CANOPY, MSC ADAMS, MATLAB/SIMULINK/C) for lap time, SIL, and DIL applications.
- You will analyze the performance and vehicle dynamics of both future concepts and existing race cars, based on simulation results and track measurements to derive and evaluate meaningful KPIs.
- Your responsibilities include supporting our race and test teams from the back office, on-site at test benches, and occasionally at tracks during the introduction of new systems.
What should you bring along?
- MSc. in mechanical engineering, aeronautical engineering, control systems, computer science or equivalent.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a professional motorsport environment (F1, WEC, DTM) on modelling, computing and optimizing race cars’ vehicle dynamics, control systems and simulator environments, preferably with the software tools mentioned above.
- Expert knowledge in creating model-based software modules for simulation environments (MBS, lap time simulations, etc.) using MATLAB/SIMULINK or C.
- Experience in using state of the art data acquisition methods (AI) and standard post-processing tools (MM-WINTAX, BOSCH DARAB, etc.).
- In-depth understanding of the impact of single control systems and mechanical subsystems on the overall full-vehicle performance.
- English fluently (C1) and preferably German on B2 level or higher.
Do you have a passion for motorsport, a strong team spirit, and the drive to help us win the next races? Apply now!
