Overview
Flexibility: This role is available part-time, job-share or full time. We want the best people for our roles and recognise that sometimes those people aren\’t available full-time. The Senior Project Professional will typically engage with project teams daily across a varied project environment. Location: BMT\’s projects are spread across our UK sites, with emphasis on Bath, Weymouth, Fareham, Plymouth and London, but we operate flexibly according to project needs and client relationships. Travel and subsistence to and from base location to client sites or other BMT offices will be provided in line with BMT\’s policy. As a Senior Project Professional, you will help define, lead and manage projects where outcomes are delivered successfully for clients within contractual service-based relationships. You will contribute to BMT’s ability to deliver insight, innovation and results across multiple domains.
Responsibilities
- The Delivery Project Manager role: identification, definition, delivery and closure of complex projects or groups of standard or complex projects and related activities throughout the project delivery lifecycle.
- The Bid/Proposal Project Manager role: provide PM subject matter expertise to aid definition of standard or complex projects and estimation of PM effort for bids/proposals; support cost estimation, initial delivery project structure in the PM system, and support assurance reviews and gate processes.
- Leadership of projects or groups of projects in a commercially focused, contract-based environment; manage and report commercial and financial performance.
- Significant development and support of the Project Management Function and best practice within BMT and in related professional bodies.
- Mentoring or coaching of staff undertaking project delivery tasks.
- Line management of other Project Professional colleagues within the Function.
Qualifications and Experience
- Experience delivering projects in an engineering service environment with defined contractual relationships and a strong commercial/financial performance perspective.
- Experience constructing project definition elements of bids and relating them to project delivery; engaging with stakeholders inside and outside the business.
- Ability to recognise, understand and undertake project management duties across predictive (plan-based) to adaptive (iterative) approaches.
- Experience delivering products or systems, engineering services, new capabilities, software applications, IT systems, cyber services, environmental systems, or business transformations.
- Ability to operate across different delivery domains within BMT; knowledge in one or more domains where the project demands it for maximum effectiveness (preference for maritime vessel, maritime systems, cyber service delivery or technical documentation domain knowledge).
- SFIA8: Responsibilities Level 4 (Enable) with client relationships requiring Level 5 influence; Project Management skills at least SFIA8 PRMG Level 5.
- One or more of the following qualifications (or equivalent): APQ PMQ, PMI PMP, AgilePM Practitioner, PRINCE2 Practitioner/MSP/ITIL/M_o_R/MoV, Praxis Framework Practitioner.
- A degree-level qualification in a project management- or engineering-related discipline is desirable.
- Professional qualifications and membership (APM, PMI) supported; the company can provide training and funds for membership where applicable.
- Due to the nature of the work, the role requires UK Security Clearance (SC) and residency in the UK for more than 5 years; applications from those unable to attain/transfer clearance will not be considered.
