Ships and submarines represent some of the most complex manufactured assets in the world and as such provide interesting, challenging and rewarding work for the people that design, build and support them through life. As an Engineering Manager within our Marine Engineering team, you will have the opportunity to be involved in projects across the lifecycle of vessels for both our UK and international customers.
Within our submarine capability, we are looking for a highly skilled and experienced technical leader from the submarine domain that can lead teams of engineers, act in a technical assurance capacity and help support the development of opportunities and our capability within the UK and beyond. With this in mind, we are after applicants that have served as submariners in the UK Royal Navy post-charge within the Mechanical/Marine Engineering specialism. We may consider applicants from a non-RN background although they will need to be highly technically competent with submarine Nuclear Propulsion and Mechanical systems and familiar with UK MoD submarine business practices and customers.
You will get involved in solving engineering challenges through leading the development and delivery of the Marine Engineering aspects of our projects. The projects will range from supporting our customers in delivering complex in-service change, delivery of feasibility studies, technical and design engineering investigations and analyses. You will also have an opportunity to contribute to the delivery of projects across our wider portfolio, and a range of broader consulting projects within our other market areas.
Research and development is also at the heart of what we do and you will have the opportunity to drive and support (enhancing global understanding of submarine issues) the development of future submarine design concepts as well as the development of new capabilities, tools and processes. There will be opportunities to work with the wider business functions to support the development of opportunities and foster customer relationships.
The majority of people within the capability are based in the Bath and Bristol area; however, the capability is part of the UK and Europe region so a balance of in-office, remote, and hybrid working will be considered. Travel to other BMT offices and customer sites will be necessary as and when required (occasional overseas travel may be required). This is a full-time fee earning role.
Candidates will be registered as a Chartered Engineer with an appropriate professional body. You will have the ability to communicate and act with integrity with all levels of the business and customers, promoting a lessons learnt culture and contributing to business success through considered decision making and influencing the employee engagement agenda. Leading development of others, promoting respect, trust and openness, well-being and safety, collaboration and recognising diversity in our people and teams is key to maintaining our culture.
Experience or an understanding of working across the entire platform lifecycle, from concept development through to in-service support and disposal is desirable. Missing skills? Let us be the judge! BMT are passionate about people; we recognise that technology moves quickly and that no one can learn everything, which is why we seek those who can adapt and demonstrate the aptitude to learn. With enthusiasm and the right attitude, we can help you discover your potential.
If you are ready to contribute your skills and passion to a dynamic team addressing impactful challenges, we invite you to apply for this exciting opportunity with BMT. Join us in shaping a safer, more efficient, and sustainable future.
