We’re recruiting for a HSEQ & Sustainability Manager to take a senior leadership role on a long-term, large-scale construction programme expected to run for over 5 years. This is a rare opportunity to take full ownership of health & safety, environmental performance, sustainability, and community engagement on a major live site with real influence over site culture, delivery standards, and long-term project outcomes. You’ll be joining a well-established delivery team on a complex, fast-moving scheme, where your input will directly shape how the project is delivered safely, responsibly, and sustainably.
You will act as the lead HSEQ & Sustainability professional on site, working closely with operational teams, subcontractors, stakeholders, and the wider project leadership team. This role combines hands-on site leadership with strategic oversight, ensuring high standards are maintained across health & safety, environmental performance, and social value.
Key Responsibilities
- Health, Safety & Compliance
- Lead implementation and continuous improvement of site-wide HSEQ systems
- Ensure compliance with UK legislation including CDM Regulations and HSE standards
- Conduct audits, inspections, and incident investigations, driving corrective actions
- Monitor trends, identify risks, and promote a strong behavioural safety culture
- Support operational teams with RAMS reviews and risk mitigation
- Sustainability & Environmental Performance
- Develop and implement project sustainability strategy aligned with ESG objectives
- Monitor and report on environmental performance including carbon, waste, and energy usage
- Identify opportunities to reduce environmental impact across site operations
- Promote practical and innovative sustainable construction practices
- Community Engagement & Social Value
- Act as a key point of contact for local stakeholders and community groups
- Manage communication around site activity, logistics and disruption
- Lead social value initiatives across the project
- Support local employment, skills development, and community programmes
What We’re Looking For
Essential
- Experience in a senior HSEQ role within construction, infrastructure or major projects
- Strong knowledge of UK HSE legislation and CDM Regulations
- Experience delivering environmental and sustainability initiatives on live projects
- Background in stakeholder or community engagement
- NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent)
- Strong communication, leadership, and influencing skills
Desirable
- Environmental or sustainability qualification (e.g. IEMA)
- ISO 45001 / ISO 14001 auditing experience
- Experience on complex, live construction environments
- Knowledge of construction logistics best practice (FORS / CLOCS)
