An established engineering recruitment agency is currently working on behalf of a globally recognised engineering organisation to recruit an experienced Test Engineer for a long-term contract opportunity in Chippenham. This role is ideally suited to a Test Engineer with strong electronic production support experience, particularly within In-Circuit Test (ICT) and Flying Probe testing environments.
The Role
Reporting to the Test Engineering Team Lead, you will play a key role supporting electronic production processes. You will work closely with Test Engineering and Production teams to ensure test equipment operates efficiently and evolves alongside product changes. This is a hands-on role requiring strong technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and the ability to support both new and legacy test systems.
Key Responsibilities as a Test Engineer
- Provide technical support for electronic production testing
- Support ICT platforms including Teradyne and Takaya Flying Probe systems
- Operate, commission, and maintain test equipment
- Introduce new tests into production environments
- Develop test methods, procedures, and documentation
- Train production technicians on test equipment and processes
- Investigate test failures and conduct root cause analysis
- Produce detailed test reports and present findings to project teams
- Liaise with internal departments, customers, and external test facilities
- Provide regular progress updates to engineering management
About You
- Degree-qualified in an engineering discipline (or equivalent experience)
- Background in electronic testing and/or development
- Strong understanding of test standards, customer requirements, and specifications
- Practical experience with test and measurement equipment (DMMs, oscilloscopes, NI analysers, etc.)
- Hands-on electronics skills including soldering and component-level work
- Proven troubleshooting and fault-finding ability
- Comfortable working to deadlines in a production environment
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
Desirable Experience
- Programming experience (e.g. C++ for ICT)
- LabVIEW knowledge
- Experience with instrumentation and data acquisition systems
- Exposure to automotive, railway, IEC or BS standards
- Understanding of IPC manufacturing standards
