On behalf of our client, we are recruiting for a Skilled Composite Aircraft Fitter to support the assembly of aircraft main wing assemblies and sub-assemblies, specifically within the Fixed Trailing Edge Assembly area. The successful candidate will assemble composite and metallic aircraft components from detail parts, using approved tools, fixtures, and technical data, in line with strict aerospace quality and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Assemble and trim composite and metallic aircraft components in accordance with engineering drawings and specifications
- Carry out drilling, reaming, and countersinking operations on composite and metallic materials
- Accurately set aircraft components in calibrated build jigs
- Perform deburring and under-head radius operations on aircraft components and assemblies
- Undertake fettling using approved and calibrated setting tools
- Use nut runners and pre-set torque tools for bolting operations
- Ensure all work is completed in line with site Health & Safety requirements
- Actively participate in local continuous improvement activities
- Take responsibility for quality and self-certification of own work where applicable
Standard Hours & Shift Pattern
Shift Pattern: 12/7 Day Shift
Average Hours: 40.25 hours per week
Week 1: Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday 06:00 β 18:00 (30-minute unpaid lunch break)
Week 2: Wednesday & Thursday 06:00 β 18:00 (30-minute unpaid lunch break)
Training Period: Likely to work Core Days for the first couple of weeks prior to moving onto shift. Core Days expected to be Monday to Friday, 07:00 β 15:00 (maximum of 2 weeks)
Pay Rates (PAYE)
Core Days (Training): Β£18.43 per hour
12/7 Shift: Β£23.59 per hour
Overtime (Weekdays): Β£27.65 per hour
Overtime (Weekends): Β£36.86 per hour
Qualifications & Experience
- Completed apprenticeship or recognised equivalent qualification (ESSENTIAL)
- Acceptable qualifications include Apprenticeship, NVQ Level 3, or City & Guilds Level 3
- Minimum of 3β5 yearsβ relevant trade experience assembling aircraft components using technical drawings and approved processes
Key Skills & Competencies
- Proven ability to assemble and trim composite and ancillary materials to close tolerances
- Excellent hand skills, coordination, and attention to detail
- Strong understanding of aircraft drawings, limits, and quality systems
- Ability to operate CNC machines and associated processes as required
- Self-motivated team player with strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of small teams
- Willingness to undertake further training in composite manufacturing techniques and processes
- Working knowledge of IT systems, including SAP and Microsoft Office packages
Security Requirements
Baseline Security Clearance required, including a criminal record check. Clearance will be completed by the client at no cost to the candidate.
