Our client, a globally recognised engineering organisation, is seeking a Test Engineer - Hardware Build to join their Test Engineering team on a long-term contract basis. This opportunity would suit a hands-on Test Engineer with a strong background in hardware build, or an experienced Wireperson looking to step into a more test-focused engineering role. You will be joining a collaborative, technically driven environment where individual contribution is recognised and valued.
The Role
- Build, test, and commission hardware test equipment
- Collaborate with Test Development Engineers on hardware selection and design
- Source components, materials, and test equipment
- Translate product specifications into power distribution, safety circuits, and protective housings
- Carry out mechanical and electrical assembly
- Interpret equipment specifications and generate channel lists
- Liaise with suppliers, service providers, and external test facilities
- Work closely with internal teams and customers
- Apply IEC electrical safety standards and support high-voltage testing
- Provide progress updates to project teams and engineering management
About You
- Strong background in testing, development, hardware build, or related engineering disciplines
- Able to work independently with excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- High attention to detail with a quality-focused approach
- Confident interpreting test standards, specifications, and customer requirements
- Experience supporting prototype and proof-of-concept builds
- Comfortable engaging with customers, suppliers, and external partners
- Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Proficient with Microsoft Office
Desirable Experience
- Knowledge of CAD software (ideally SolidWorks)
- Familiarity with IEC electrical safety standards and safety testing
- Understanding of IPC manufacturing standards
- Exposure to automotive, railway, or BS standards
