The Role

We are recruiting for a Mechanical Assembly Fitter to join an established manufacturing company based in Highbridge. This is an excellent temporary-to-permanent opportunity offering a particularly attractive four-day working week, with 37 hours worked between Monday and Thursday and every Friday off. The company is happy to consider candidates at different levels of experience. Applications are welcomed from experienced Mechanical Assembly Fitters as well as enthusiastic, mechanically minded individuals who have good practical ability and would like the opportunity to learn and develop within an engineering and manufacturing environment. Full training can be provided for candidates with the right aptitude and attitude, while experienced Assembly Fitters will be offered a rate reflecting their existing skills and experience.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for mechanically assembling the company's manufactured products, working from mechanical drawings, build instructions and specifications. You will use a range of basic hand tools to fit and assemble mechanical components accurately, ensuring completed assemblies meet the required quality standards. You will work alongside other members of the production and engineering teams and will be expected to identify and report any component or assembly issues while maintaining a clean, organised and safe working environment.

Skills & Experience

The company is open-minded regarding previous experience and is interested in speaking with candidates who have either established mechanical assembly skills or the practical aptitude to develop them. Experienced applicants may have worked within mechanical assembly, mechanical fitting, engineering, manufacturing, machine building, production assembly, maintenance or mechanical repair. Previous experience working from mechanical drawings would be beneficial. The company will also consider candidates without formal mechanical fitting experience who are mechanically minded, confident using basic hand tools and enjoy practical, hands-on work. You should have good attention to detail, a genuine interest in engineering or manufacturing and, importantly, a willingness to learn. Training can be provided for candidates who demonstrate the right practical ability, reliability and attitude.

Hours

This position offers an excellent four-day working week, with 37 hours worked Monday to Thursday.

Pay & Contract

£14.00 - £18.00 per hour, dependent on experience. The position is initially offered on a temporary basis with the intention of becoming permanent following a successful temporary period. The hourly rate offered will reflect previous mechanical assembly, fitting and engineering experience.
