Edwards Vacuum, a global leader in advanced vacuum and abatement solutions and part of Atlas Copco, is seeking a Team Manager β Sustaining Electrical Engineering to join its growing engineering function in Bristol. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced electrical engineering leader to combine people leadership, technical governance, and engineering problem-solving in a highly innovative, high-technology environment.
The Role
As Team Manager β Sustaining Electrical Engineering, youβll lead a team of approximately six electrical engineers responsible for supporting products across the full lifecycle β from issue investigation and root-cause analysis to design change, validation, release, and reliability improvements. Youβll play a key role in ensuring engineering delivery is safe, compliant, high quality, and on time, while developing and mentoring a high-performing team.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of electrical engineers through regular 1:1s, mentoring, and performance management.
- Drive engineering best practice to improve delivery across quality, cost, specification, safety, and timelines.
- Lead sustaining engineering activities including:
- Failure investigations
- Root-cause analysis
- Design modifications and validation
- Reliability and serviceability improvements
- Product lifecycle support
- Own technical governance for engineering changes, ensuring robust documentation and configuration control (ECR/ECO).
- Lead structured problem-solving using methodologies such as 8D, FMEA, and CAPA.
- Work cross-functionally with manufacturing, quality, supply chain, project management, service teams, and customers.
What Weβre Looking For
- Degree-qualified in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent experience)
- Proven experience leading and developing engineering teams
- Strong background in electrical engineering within a complex engineering/manufacturing environment
- Experience balancing technical leadership with people management responsibilities
- Strong understanding of engineering governance, compliance, reliability, and product development best practice
- Experience coordinating engineering projects and stakeholders
- Chartered Engineer status (or working towards) is advantageous but not essential.
