An established and growing engineering organisation operating within the defence vehicle sector is seeking a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to support the development of advanced electrical systems for specialist armoured platforms.
This role sits within a multidisciplinary engineering team responsible for delivering complex, mission-critical vehicle systems from concept through to production and in-service support. The successful candidate will play a key role in defining electrical architectures, leading design activities, and ensuring robust integration of vehicle subsystems including communications, EMC protection, and situational awareness technologies. This is an opportunity to take ownership of technically challenging projects within a highly regulated engineering environment, contributing to innovative platforms that support critical global operations.
Electrical Design & Architecture
- Lead electrical system design from concept through to detailed design and release
- Develop and present electrical architecture solutions aligned to customer and regulatory requirements
- Produce electrical schematics and cable/harness designs in accordance with industry standards
- Support integration of specialist vehicle subsystems including communications and electronic protection systems
Engineering Lifecycle & Compliance
- Generate technical specifications and design documentation
- Support validation and verification activities, including environmental and functional testing
- Apply structured engineering methodologies including Design FMEA
- Ensure configuration control and change management processes are followed
- Contribute to engineering change requests and legacy fleet support
The Person / Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience delivering electrical design projects within complex engineering environments (e.g. defence, automotive, specialist vehicles, heavy engineering)
- Proficiency in 3D CAD design tools (experience with Creo and cabling modules advantageous)
- Experience using PLM systems for configuration and product lifecycle management
- Strong understanding of electrical schematics and harness design to recognised drafting standards
- Knowledge of EMC principles and integration of vehicle electrical subsystems
- Experience applying structured engineering processes including validation planning and risk assessment (e.g. FMEA)
- Understanding of configuration control and engineering change management within regulated industries
- Strong systems engineering awareness and ability to manage technical interfaces
- Effective communication skills with the ability to engage cross-functional teams and stakeholders
- Proficient in standard office software tools
Desirable:
- Experience within military or specialist vehicle platforms
- Exposure to communications or electronic protection systems integration
- Experience contributing to complex technical proposals or bid submissions
- Awareness of regulated or secure project environments
