The Clinical Editor supports the Editor-in-Chief in developing high-quality content for publication in DTB. This includes developing ideas for articles, commissioning articles, editing articles, reviewing articles as well as writing content for the journal. The Clinical Editor also supports other aspects of the journal including liaison with Editorial Board members, authors and commentators, and provides input to podcasts and social media activity.
Responsibilities
- Work with the Editor-in-Chief to develop DTB’s editorial strategy plan to attract and publish high-quality content relevant to healthcare professionals.
- Commission, edit, circulate for peer review and coordinate the publication of content in line with DTB’s editorial strategy.
- Commission 12 articles per year for publication in DTB.
- Write up to two editorials per year for publication in DTB.
- Work with the publishing and editorial production teams to move content smoothly through the editorial process including liaising with authors and reviewers.
- Contribute to regular updating of DTB social media accounts.
- Participate in monthly DTB podcast.
- Provide support to editorial board members.
- Help with recruitment of editorial board members.
- Attend editorial meetings.
- Support the Editor-in-Chief with press releases, post-publication issues, criticism or complaints.
- Be an ambassador for the journal.
- Attend relevant online and in-person conferences and meetings to represent the journal.
Skills, Experience & Qualification Experience
- Clinical experience/knowledge to inform editorial decision making and ensure relevance of articles.
- Experience in critical appraisal of evidence to inform decision-making.
- Experience in writing for a clinical and/or public health audience.
- Editorial experience on a general medical journal including commissioning, editing, and writing content.
- Experience of critical appraisal of evidence in writing articles.
- Experience of peer review process in publishing.
- Experience of writing and editing content for healthcare professionals.
- Experience of working in a matrix, hybrid environment.
- Experience of working with ScholarOne (or other online content management systems).
- Degree in medicine or pharmacy. Candidates with a PhD in pharmacology or closely allied subject will be considered if they have medical writing and publishing experience.
- Postgraduate qualification related to evidence-based healthcare.
