We are an innovation company founded in 2012. Our core strength is antimicrobial technologies, but we have since broadened to printing innovations, coatings and medical devices. Our commercial breakthrough was achieved with the launch of the world’s first non-leaching Anti-Microbial Glove (AMG) in 2018, in partnership with the world leader for nitrile examination gloves, Hartalega (Malaysia). Chemical Intelligence has an ongoing portfolio of products and technologies across healthcare, PPE and consumer products.
The Role
We are seeking a Senior Chemist to expand our team to drive further innovation. The role would suit applicants with a background in polymer or colloid chemistry ideally. The role is hands-on and lab-focused, with an emphasis on daily fabrication of polymeric and elastomeric articles for property testing and performance evaluation. It would suit a motivated, self-starting individual with experience in running a research project. As part of our multidisciplinary team, you will contribute to the development, synthesis, and processing of innovative materials and formulations, while supporting product testing and optimization. As such, a PhD would seem to be a valuable (but not mandatory) qualification. The role holder will have the opportunity to be involved in multiple innovation projects across the business.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct R&D for new and existing commercial products
- Preparation and functionalisation of novel emulsions
- Preparation of test articles for internal and external testing
- Synthesis of functional polymers
- Potentially synthesis of chemical targets, including monomers for polymerization
- Ensure regular maintenance of lab equipment and adherence to safety protocols
- Liaison with internal and external stakeholders
The Person
The key skills and qualities of a Senior Chemist are:
- Able to work independently to drive projects to completion (Essential)
- Comfortable with routinely fabricating test articles and refining formulations as a core part of the role (Essential)
- Comfortable working as a team
- Strong problem-solving skills with adaptable experimental approach
- Demonstrable expertise in polymer/colloid chemistry – or related fields
- Experience in latex formulation is advantageous
- Experience of analysis and characterisation of colloids is advantageous
- Experience in polymer processing including extrusion is advantageous
- Experience with intellectual property (IP) protection and patent drafting is advantageous
- PhD advantageous (but not mandatory)
- If the applicant does not possess a PhD then we would expect 3 years relevant experience
- Willingness to occasionally travel internationally – expect 3 times annually
- Willingness to occasionally work outside your expertise to meet business need
- Hold a valid UK driving licence and be able to commute by car (Essential)
