You will be working as a member of the Mainframe Tech Services infrastructure support team. Our mission is to provide the IBM system Z infrastructure (hardware and software) required by the IZOT business unit R&D, Sales and Customer Support organizations. You will work in conjunction with the Mainframe Tech Services team members and with the various IZOT teams to define, configure, install, modify and make available the appropriate storage infrastructure hardware and software. This storage infrastructure will support the operations of the mainframe environment, and to be used by BMC R&D teams for their product development and testing purposes. In addition, you will be responsible for installing the software and hardware service (i.e. firmware) provided by the manufacturers.
Here is how, through this exciting role, YOU will contribute to BMC\’s and your own success:
- Installs, tests, implements, maintains, enhances, interfaces and supports storage management products such as IBM DFSMS, IBM DFSMShsm, AMI Storage products, and infrastructure applications and/or associated products.
- Monitor and maintain installed storage capacity to insure efficient, cost-effective utilization.
- Provide for hardware and software configurations to meet R&D requirements.
- Maintain system and data backup copies to protect BMC against loss of data and maintain data integrity.
- Perform problem analysis and work with IBM & OEM vendors to resolve problems on all supported subsystems.
- Communicate effectively with R&D users and all management levels.
- Manage multiple, simultaneous tasks.
- Work with Mainframe Technical Services team to test operating system and program products to insure compatibility with vendor-supplied changes.
- Develops documentation and provides knowledge transfer to peers.
- Participating in project teams as subject matter expert, relating to the support of existing technologies and the selection and implementation of new technologies.
- Participate in vendor early ship/early support programs as needed.
- Implement new hardware and software technologies as required.
- Participate in BMC beta/early ship/early support programs whenever possible and feasible.
- Support BMC disaster recovery/business continuity programs as directed.
To ensure you’re set up for success, you will bring the following skillset & experience:
- You have 7 or more years’ experience with one or more of the following: IBM DS89xx/DS88xx, EMC and Hitachi Data Systems disk storage, IBM TS77xx and EMC DLm virtual tape subsystems, Brocade or IBM storage directors.
- You have expert knowledge of and proficiency with IBM products and utilities, such as DFSMShsm, DFSMSdss, DFSMStvs, ZFS, IBM disk and tape management utilities; prefer strong experience with BMC utilities.
- You have experience with managing a complex IBM SMS and non-SMS environment.
- You have 7+ years of systems support background, including a working knowledge of
– SMP/E to apply IBM maintenance. – TSO, CLIST, REXX and ISPF.
- You have knowledge of and proficiency with installation, configuration and maintenance processes.
- You have the ability to remain calm, cordial, and effective during the resolution of time critical system interruptions/difficulties/failures.
- You have Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- You have thorough problem-solving skills, a demonstrated ability to work issues to resolution, and independent work habits.
- You should be comfortable working in 3PM to 12 AM midnight shift
Whilst these are nice to have, our team can help you develop in the following skills:
- Cloud storage (e.g. IBM Transparent Cloud Tiering) and object storage systems, including BMC AMI Cloud (Model-9) is a plus.
- Working with z/VM mini-disks and storage is a plus.
- Familiarity with BMC AMI Storage family of products is a plus.
