A long-established, family-run accountancy practice in Morpeth is seeking an experienced Accounts Assistant to join their friendly and supportive team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a close-knit environment and wants to play a key role in delivering high-quality service to a varied client base.

The Opportunity

Due to continued growth and internal team changes, the firm is looking for a capable Accounts Assistant who can confidently support across accounts, VAT, bookkeeping, and payroll. You’ll work closely with the Accounts Manager and business owner, contributing to a smooth and efficient service for clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Preparing statutory accounts for a range of clients
  • Preparing and submitting VAT returns
  • Assisting with bookkeeping tasks
  • Supporting payroll processing
  • Using a variety of accounting systems (including Sage, Xero, Excel, TaxCalc, BrightPay)
  • Communicating with clients to gather information and resolve queries
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues to meet deadlines and maintain accuracy

About You

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • At least 5 years’ experience within an accountancy practice
  • Strong knowledge of accounts preparation, VAT, and bookkeeping
  • AAT Level 4 qualification with relevant post-qualification experience
  • Confidence in communicating with clients and colleagues
  • The ability to manage your workload and meet deadlines consistently
