About the role
We are looking for a Regional Support Officer with trade‑union experience to join the BMA London regional team on a six‑month fixed‑term contract. The role supports the regional team in delivering the Five Pillars strategy, including representing members, negotiating, supporting and organising representatives, campaigning, and recruitment. The successful candidate will work closely with BMA staff and representatives, applying transferable skills in negotiation, representation, campaigning and union organising.
Key Responsibilities
- Support BMA Local Negotiating Committees and regional practice committees.
- Provide individual and collective representation to members.
- Gather and evaluate information to develop strategies for complex negotiations, cases or campaigns.
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with BMA colleagues and members.
- Contribute to the implementation of the Five Pillars strategy.
Qualifications
- In‑depth expert knowledge of industrial relations, employment law, HR policies, procedures and best practice.
- Ability to gather, evaluate information and develop strategies for complex negotiations, cases or campaigns.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build effective working relationships with colleagues and members.
- Knowledge of NHS structures and an understanding of the key issues facing the medical profession locally.
- Good organisational skills with the ability to manage a demanding workload and maintain your own diary.
- Excellent negotiating and influencing skills.
- Ability to be flexible and adaptable in dealing with varying situations.
Employment terms
