BMJ is a global healthcare knowledge provider. To support our vision for a healthier world, our analytical infrastructure must be engineered for precision. We are recruiting a Lead Business Intelligence Analyst to serve as the architect of our enterprise-level analytical environments. This is a position of strategic authority, focused on the standards and governance required to maintain a scalable, high-integrity data ecosystem. You will bridge the gap between complex data engineering and stakeholder insight, ensuring our data foundations are trusted, proactive, and robust. As a senior member of BMJ’s Data function, you will provide end-to-end technical oversight across our platforms. By defining the strategy for data consumption and visualisation, you will empower our business units to move from static dashboards to machine-led, automated insights. Your role is to ensure that as we move toward an AI-driven future, our data architecture is a strategic, integral agent-ready asset.

Responsibilities

  • Architectural Integrity: Define and own the end-to-end technical delivery for BI infrastructure, architecting complex data layers from Oracle and GCP sources to ensure scalable and high-quality data integrity.
  • Data Governance: Act as the enterprise guardian for BI data quality and compliance, establishing data mapping standards and maintaining strict adherence to internal and external policies, including GDPR.
  • Empowering Insight: Prioritise BMJ’s move towards BI self-service. You will design and lead programs that empower users to effectively utilise Tableau tools, establishing the documentation and training standards required for informed, independent decision-making.
  • Technical Problem Solving: Serve as the final point of escalation for the most complex, systemic issues related to BI data integrity, database discrepancies, and technical reporting errors.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications

  • BI Platforms & Architecture: Extensive, proven experience in architecting and governing enterprise-level BI platforms, specifically Tableau.
  • Technical Proficiency: Advanced, hands-on expertise in SQL for the creation of complex statements within Oracle and GCP environments.
  • Data Strategy & Governance: Mastery of designing and maintaining data mapping from relational and data warehouse sources to ensure future-proof data integrity.
  • Stakeholder Partnering: The ability to articulate and convey complex technical concepts with clarity to both senior technical and non-technical business stakeholders, aligning BI capabilities with commercial objectives.
  • Problem Solving: Exceptional analytical capability for interpreting and resolving complex data integrity issues and proactively optimising BI solutions.
  • Data Engineering & Cloud: Experience managing complex data consumption from GCP and Oracle, ensuring BI outputs are integrated into BMJ’s wider data estate.
  • Automation: Ability to lead the implementation and refinement of automated BI processes, ensuring technical optimisation and minimal impact on production.
  • Educational Background: A degree or equivalent experience in a technical or analytical field (Computer Science, Info Systems, or a related analytics discipline).

We are specifically seeking a Tableau Technical Lead to mature and scale our enterprise BI service. You will be responsible for the end-to-end administration of the Tableau environment, defining the roadmap for data quality and governance frameworks that ensure our data remains a "single source of truth." We require a candidate who can move beyond dashboarding to drive service maturity, optimise performance and establish DQ protocols. In your cover letter, please explain how your experience aligns with these requirements.
