Legal Aid Family Law Assistant
Our client are a small boutiques firm based in the heart of Birmingham city centre. We are looking for an experienced Family Law assistant/paralegal who has worked in Public Legal aid Family law to join our clients close knit team.
Job Purpose:
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Family Law Paralegal to support our legal team in
managing Private and Public children Act proceedings, domestic violence, and adoption matters. The
ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of family law procedures and court systems, and be
able to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- To undertake matters which you are competent to conduct having due regard to the policies and procedures defined in the Quality Manual relating to your areas of work.
- Filing documents to client files, dealing with closed files and maintaining the firm’s closed file records.
- Assisting with casework including the arranging of appointments and assisting with clients and dealing with their queries including:
- obtaining instructions
- drafting and/or dictating correspondence to client, court, solicitors counsel and other third-parties,
- arranging meetings and conferences;
- obtaining and reviewing evidence and statements;
- Ensuring efficient day-to-day progress of all matters, prioritising work as necessary and keeping the client informed on progress.
- Prepare legal documents, applications and statements
- Drafting applications for public funding
- Assisting other members of staff with particular problems relating to the preparation of cases for court (including the preparation of bundles of documents for trial).
- Attending Court and out of office meetings with Clients and other professionals
- To ensure that all work carried out meets or exceeds the requirements of the LAA’s Standard Contract, the SRA’ Standards and Regulations and meets Quality Mark standards.
- To record all work carried out accurately and appropriately on the firm’s computerised time recording system.
