B&M are a fast-moving, high-growth retailer with a nationwide store footprint and a strong culture built around doing the right thing. As our business continues to scale, sustainability is central to how we operate, comply, and grow responsibly. We are looking for a proactive and passionate Sustainability Manager to help support our environmental compliance and ESG reporting strategy. This is a hands-on, business-critical role where you will shape how we track, measure, and reduce our environmental impact, from packaging and recycling to carbon and compliance. You will be an agile thinker, a natural collaborator, and confident working with senior leaders and operational teams across the business.
The key responsibilities of this role are:
- Support group-wide ESG reporting, including SECR, TCFD, and Plastic Packaging Tax.
- Own and develop environmental compliance programmes (WEEE, batteries, packaging waste, PPT, waste duty of care).
- Track upcoming UK and EU environmental legislation and ensure business readiness and compliance.
- Build and maintain systems to collect, audit, and report environmental data (emissions, waste, packaging).
- Embed practical sustainability processes across stores, warehouses, and head office.
- Partner with buying, logistics, finance, and legal teams to deliver aligned initiatives.
- Produce reports, dashboards, and insights for senior leadership and board-level review.
- Support ESG and Net Zero goals, including decarbonisation, supplier engagement, and waste reduction.
- Act as the key contact for audits, regulators, and sustainability-related enquiries.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Proven experience in a sustainability or environmental compliance role, ideally within retail, FMCG, or a multi-site organisation.
- Strong knowledge of UK environmental legislation and reporting requirements (e.g. WEEE, Plastic Packaging Tax, SECR, ESOS).
- Experience designing auditable processes and environmental data-collection frameworks.
- A self-starter mindset with excellent project management skills and the ability to work independently and cross-functionally.
- Confidence communicating complex topics clearly, including presenting to senior stakeholders.
- A detail-driven approach, balanced with the ability to see the bigger picture and prioritise what matters most.
- Knowledge of ESG frameworks such as GRI, CDP, or SASB.
- Experience supporting Net Zero, decarbonisation, or circularity strategies.
This is a unique opportunity to shape a new function and play a critical role in the evolution of our store estate. You will be joining at a pivotal time, with the scope to make a tangible impact on how our customers experience B&M. We offer you a range of great benefits including discount in our stores, a colleague portal offering discount for numerous retailers, hospitality & much more!
B&M Retail are an equal opportunity employer. We are committed to creating an inclusive and diverse environment for all colleagues.
