We’re looking for an experienced Internal Communications & Engagement Manager to support the day-to-day running of B&M’s Internal Communications & Engagement team and to deputise for the Head of Internal Communications & Engagement when required, including during periods of annual leave. You’ll be responsible for maintaining momentum, quality and confidence across internal communications, able to independently draft, sense-check, proof and sign off content, manage stakeholders, and keep key activity moving in the Head of IC’s absence. Alongside hands‑on delivery, you’ll bring solid experience of strategic internal communications planning, including colleague surveys, values launches and colleague engagement activity.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as a deputy to the Head of Internal Communications & Engagement when required, providing continuity of leadership, decision-making and delivery.
- Confidently manage day‑to‑day internal communications activity in the Head of IC’s absence.
- Oversee the work and communications produced by the Internal Communications & Engagement Co‑ordinator, providing guidance and quality assurance.
- Drive internal communications plans for colleague surveys, values launches and engagement campaigns.
- Translate strategy into clear comms plans with audiences, messages, channels and timelines.
- Independently draft, edit and commission high‑quality internal communications.
- Turn complex or sensitive information into clear, engaging colleague‑facing messages.
- Act as final editorial gatekeeper ensuring content is accurate, on‑brand and rigorously proofread.
- Maintain high standards for grammar, tone of voice and clarity.
- Oversee and manage major events end‑to‑end including planning, suppliers, content and delivery.
Ideal Candidate
- Proven experience in internal communications, with a strong track record of delivering impactful communication strategies.
- Experience deputising for senior leaders or operating independently with minimal oversight, demonstrating sound judgement and decision‑making.
- Demonstrated experience developing and delivering comprehensive communications plans, particularly for employee surveys and organisational values or culture launches.
- Outstanding writing, editing, and proofreading abilities, with the capacity to tailor tone and messaging for diverse audiences.
- Proven experience planning and executing large‑scale internal events, ensuring high engagement and seamless delivery.
- Experience working within a PLC or listed business, with an understanding of corporate governance, compliance, and stakeholder expectations.
