Blusource Recruitment are recruiting a Commercial Accountant for an established organisation. This is a broad commercial finance opportunity where you will spend much of your time working with people across the organisation, helping them understand the financial picture and supporting them in making well-informed decisions.

Rather than being focused purely on producing numbers, you will be expected to understand what is happening across different areas, ask the right questions and help managers understand the financial impact of their decisions.

The role will include:

  • Working closely with managers across the organisation
  • Helping stakeholders understand how their area is performing financially
  • Supporting budgets and regular financial projections
  • Looking into movements in financial performance and explaining what sits behind them
  • Producing useful financial analysis to support management decisions
  • Helping managers understand the financial implications of different options
  • Providing finance input into new ideas, projects and expenditure
  • Improving the quality and usefulness of management information
  • Helping develop more efficient ways of producing and sharing financial information
  • Encouraging greater financial understanding amongst colleagues outside of finance

You will need a strong grounding in management or commercial finance and previous experience of working directly with people outside of the finance function. The ability to communicate is particularly important. You will be dealing with people who have different levels of financial knowledge, so you need to explain the numbers without overcomplicating things, while having the confidence to question decisions when needed.

Ideally you will be ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified, although someone close to completing their qualification could also be considered if they already have the right level of experience. You should be comfortable working with detailed financial information and spreadsheets, but this role is likely to appeal most to someone who enjoys the people and commercial side of finance rather than a predominantly technical accounting position.

You may currently be working as a Finance Business Partner, Management Accountant, Commercial Accountant, Finance Manager or in another role where you have developed significant exposure to stakeholders outside of finance. There is scope to make an impact, particularly for somebody who naturally looks for better ways of doing things and enjoys helping others get more from financial information.
