About the Role

To support the Managers and Directors through assisting with a portfolio of clients and ensuring that agreed service levels are met on time and in budget, all the while reinforcing the Firm’s core values. To support the Managers and Directors in training and developing individual members of the team. To help move the business forward by recognising other services and performance opportunities of value to clients and opportunities to acquire new ones.

Key Responsibilities

  • To undertake accounts preparation assignments for a wide variety of clients working to budgets and deadlines, ensuring accuracy by comparing workings with supporting documentation, performing reconciliations as necessary and investigating all discrepancies.
  • To prepare financial statements and tax computations for companies and unincorporated businesses, partnerships and sole traders in accordance with the Firm’s systems, relevant legislation and Financial Reporting Standards.
  • To prepare management accounts on behalf of clients and maintain client’s bookkeeping records where necessary, using a variety of preparatory software.
  • To provide information on self‑assessment, P11Ds and other taxation matters to the tax team and other team members as required, or where appropriate, to prepare self‑assessment returns for review by the Tax team.
  • To prepare forms P11D for expenses and benefit.
  • To prepare VAT returns on behalf of clients as required in accordance with the firm’s systems.
  • To deal with correspondence from Clients, HM Revenue & Customs and from third parties as directed.
  • To prepare correspondence to clients and other bodies as required.
  • To advise and liaise with other Team Members regarding accounts and taxation issues.
  • To communicate, build and develop relationships with clients, Team Members and others as required in the conduct of assignments to ensure efficient and effective workflow.
  • To keep accounts and taxation knowledge up to date through training, courses and reading.
  • To use and develop knowledge of the firm’s computer systems which primarily includes the CCH suite of software packages.
  • To provide support to clients and Team Members on the use of record‑keeping software, such as Xero, Sage, QuickBooks.
  • To use and develop knowledge of client’s computer systems as required.
  • To assist with the training and development of junior Team Members.
  • To carry out ad-hoc client work or assignments at the request of a Client, Director or Manager.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Part‑qualified or qualified ACCA/ACA (or equivalent); or qualified by experience.
  • Previous experience in an accountancy practice environment.
  • Working knowledge of accounting standards and UK tax legislation.
  • Experience using accounting and bookkeeping software such as Xero, Sage, QuickBooks, and CCH (or similar practice software suite).
