We're a leading e-commerce print company operating two distinct online brands, route1print and instantprint. Our core mission is simple: to make print buying as easy as possible for small businesses. An opportunity has arisen to join our Website teams, the developers behind the customer-facing platforms that drive both brands. This is where our commercial performance is won or lost, and technology is at the heart of it.

About the Role

Writing code has become dramatically cheaper. Proving it works, releasing it safely and running it reliably has not — and the volume of change now moving through our systems has made that harder, not easier. This role exists to close that gap. You'll build across the stack, and you'll own the testing, deployment and observability infrastructure that lets us ship frequently and with confidence. You'll work closely with stakeholders across marketing, studio, internal systems and accounts, translating commercial needs into robust technical solutions rather than simply working from a backlog.

What You'll Do

  • Build the systems that power our e-commerce experience — from customer-facing front-end applications to the APIs and services behind them.
  • Own and evolve our CI/CD pipelines so change reaches production quickly, repeatably and safely.
  • Raise the bar on automated testing — unit, integration and end-to-end — with particular focus on how we verify AI-assisted code before it ships.
  • Work with Infrastructure as Code tools (e.g. Terraform, CloudFormation) to build and manage cloud environments, including containerised workloads.
  • Build the observability we need — logging, monitoring, tracing and alerting — so we spot problems before customers do.
  • Improve release strategy: feature flags, staged rollouts, safe database migrations, and rollback that works when you need it.
  • Use AI-assisted development tools (e.g. agent-powered IDEs, code generation tools, intelligent documentation systems) to accelerate delivery and improve code quality, and help the wider team adopt them well.
  • Lead development initiatives, contribute to architectural decisions, and provide technical guidance to less experienced developers.

About You

  • Experience in both full stack development and DevOps or platform engineering. This role needs someone who has genuinely done both.
  • Strong experience in software engineering (typically 5+ years), across both front-end and back-end development.
  • Proficiency in at least one modern programming language (e.g. C#, Java, Go, or similar), plus experience building web applications, APIs and service-based architectures.
  • Hands-on ownership of CI/CD pipelines (e.g. Jenkins, TeamCity, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps) rather than experience of using pipelines someone else built.
  • Strong working knowledge of cloud architecture — designing for scalability, resilience, security and cost on a major platform such as AWS, Azure or GCP.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (e.g. Terraform, CloudFormation, Pulumi) to provision and maintain environments repeatably.
  • Knowledge of containerisation and modern deployment tooling (e.g. Docker, container orchestration).
  • A considered view on testing: what to test, at which level, and where the return on effort actually is.
  • Solid understanding of relational databases, version control (Git) and modern development workflows.
  • Comfortable using AI tools to support and accelerate your work — code assistants, AI-powered IDEs (e.g. Claude Code, Antigravity) or agent-based development workflows.
  • Strong stakeholder communication, and the confidence to take ownership and challenge existing thinking.
  • Experience with high-traffic e-commerce systems is beneficial, but not essential.

Why Join Us

  • Real ownership of how software gets built, tested and released — not just what gets built.
  • High-traffic, commercially critical platforms where your work is visible in the numbers.
  • A culture that values curiosity, experimentation and continuous learning.
  • Flexible, hybrid working and a small, capable team.

Brush Up on Your Coding Skills

For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.

Know Your Tools and Frameworks

Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned. Prepare for Behavioural Questions

While technical skills are key, full-time positions also require cultural fit. Be ready to discuss our previous experiences and how we handle teamwork, conflict, and deadlines. Brush up on the STAR method—Situation, Task, Action, Result—to clearly articulate our past experiences when discussing how we've contributed to a team.
