About The Role:
We have an exciting opportunity for a friendly and well-rounded Retail Supervisor that has a passion for sustainability, strong organisational skills and delivering exceptional customer service to join our dynamic and hardworking team. You will be the face of our vibrant retail space, at the entrance to the Knepp Rewilding Project and Wilding Kitchen. You will lead by example for the team through exceptional customer service and high store standards, whilst also ensuring operational processes run smoothly and efficiently. Supporting the management team in the day-to-day running of the store, you will take responsibilities which include operations, visual merchandising and stock management. If you thrive in a fast-paced, busy environment whilst keeping attention to detail and love engaging with customers about nature and all things rewilding, we’d love to hear from you. About The Shop:
Knepp Wilding Shop is a sustainable food and lifestyle retail space. We are open 9am - 5pm, 7 days a week, and is the entry point to Knepp, right next to the Walkers Car Park. We have hundreds of beautiful products inspired by nature, our own organic produce grown regeneratively in our onsite market garden, and Wild Range Meat from our Rewilding Project. We are committed to being as sustainable and ethical as possible, although we are by no means perfect.

Knepp is a pioneering 3,500-acre rewilding project in West Sussex, internationally recognised for its radical approach to restoring biodiversity and natural processes. Alongside our ecological work, the Wilding Kitchen & Shop is the public heart of the Knepp experience - serving food inspired by our landscape, championing regenerative produce, and connecting visitors to nature through exceptional hospitality and ethical retail.
Key Responsibilities:
- Being a role model for the team and influence others to deliver exceptional customer service.
- Serving customers on our tills and being the first port of call for customer enquiries support to team members on service points.
- Confidently handling enquiries and emergencies with the appropriate level of urgency/response including car parking queries.
- Motivate and influence team by being open, honest and patient.
- Create engaging customer relationships, through sharing genuine experience, personal interests and passion for wildlife and nature.
- Adopt the responsibilities of store manager in their absence including prioritising the team workflow of daily duties and opening and closure of the store.
- Manage all aspects of stock control, ordering, deliveries, transfers and replenishment, including reporting and sales forecasting on our Retail Manager Software.
- Managing and training staff in stock handling and stock taking processes and procedures to ensure accuracy in any stock movements.
- Managing and implementing high standards of visual merchandising and store presentation, ensuring that the shop floor is always fully stocked through effective use of our replenishment systems.
- Help optimise sales and support the store manager with meeting KPIs.
- Assist with health & safety and general housekeeping for the store, ensuring all checklists are completed and store is always compliant.
- Being flexible to complete new and ad-hoc tasks in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of operations, always seeking better more efficient practices and feeding back on potential changes.
- Support manager with planning and preparation for any seasonal or promotional activity as well as delivery of events in store and at the Knepp Wilding Kitchen, such as Author Talks and Art Exhibitions.
People:
- Assist the manager with onboarding, training and development of staff.
- Being a positive role model, communicating positively and actively develop and support the team by helping others, building relationships and being open, honest and patient.

- Previous experience in a leadership role looking after a team within a customer focused environment.
- A strong understanding of exceptional customer service.
- Knowledge of retail operations and procedures or a strong willingness to learn.

- You are a people person. You genuinely like talking to others, are outgoing and approachable.
- You bring a sense of fun, enthusiasm and passion to everything you do and work well on your own and as part of a team, taking direction from senior team members.
- Adept at working under pressure in very busy environments and enjoys challenges.
