As Flight Dynamics Team Lead you will be responsible for developing and maintaining the Flight Dynamics software and tools supporting Rendezvous and Proximity Operations (RPO) missions. The role spans the full mission lifecycle, from mission design through on-orbit operations, with responsibility for technical delivery and team leadership.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development, validation, and maintenance of Flight Dynamics systems and software.
- Design and optimize spacecraft trajectories and oversee flight dynamics algorithms for mission operations.
- Review and approve technical designs, procedures, and documentation.
- Capture and manage requirements and support verification and validation activities.
- Provide technical support to operations teams and resolve mission issues.
- Interface with external suppliers and support ground segment development.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (GNC, Systems, Software, Ground Segment, Projects).
- Line management of Flight Dynamics engineers, including workload planning, performance reviews, and career development.
- Plan and allocate technical work to meet project milestones.
- Own the technical output and quality of the team.
- Support reviews, recruitment, and resource planning.
- Provide technical direction, mentorship, and foster a collaborative team culture.
Experience
- MSc or equivalent in Aerospace Engineering, Astronautics, or similar.
- Strong commercial experience in spacecraft flight dynamics.
- Commercial experience leading a technical team.
- Strong knowledge of orbital mechanics, estimation, and trajectory optimization.
- Mission design, orbit determination, maneuver planning, and satellite operations.
- Proficiency with tools such as STK, GMAT, or FreeFlyer, and scripting in MATLAB or Python.
- Software development lifecycle and with version control (e.g. Git).
- Knowledge of ECSS standards.
- Experience with RPO, formation flying, or low-thrust trajectories.
- Familiarity with commercial Flight Dynamics systems.
- Ability to obtain UK security clearance.
