- Anaesthetic Practitioners to support
Aneurin Bevan University Health Board across a variety of hospital and theatre settings throughout South East Wales.
We have a range of flexible agency shifts available, giving you the opportunity to choose when you work while earning competitive rates of pay.
As an Anaesthetic Practitioner, you will work as part of the multidisciplinary theatre team, supporting the safe and effective delivery of anaesthetic care to patients undergoing a wide range of surgical procedures.
You will work closely with anaesthetists, surgeons and other theatre staff to ensure patients receive high-quality, safe and compassionate care throughout the perioperative journey.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide safe, effective and compassionate care to patients undergoing anaesthesia and surgery.
- Assist the anaesthetist with the preparation and delivery of anaesthetic care.
- Prepare and check anaesthetic equipment, drugs and clinical areas before procedures.
- Monitor patients throughout the anaesthetic and surgical process, recognising and responding appropriately to changes in their condition.
- Ensure all anaesthetic equipment is clean, functional and prepared in accordance with hospital policies and safety standards.
- Assist with airway management and other anaesthetic procedures within your scope of practice.
- Administer medications and treatments safely in accordance with relevant policies and professional standards.
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation and patient records.
- Support patient safety, dignity and comfort throughout the perioperative pathway.
- Communicate effectively with patients, relatives and members of the multidisciplinary team.
- Work collaboratively with anaesthetists, surgeons, operating department practitioners, nurses and other theatre staff.
- Follow infection prevention, safeguarding, clinical governance and theatre safety procedures.
- Respond appropriately to emergency situations and patient deterioration.
- Maintain a high standard of professional practice in accordance with NMC, HCPC or relevant professional standards.
Essential Requirements
- Registered Nurse (RN) or Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) with a valid NMC or HCPC registration, as applicable.
- Relevant anaesthetic/theatre experience.
- Minimum of 6 months' recent UK experience working within anaesthetics or an acute theatre environment.
- Experience assisting with the delivery of anaesthetic care.
- Good knowledge of anaesthetic equipment, medications and monitoring.
- Strong clinical assessment, decision-making and patient safety skills.
- Ability to recognise and respond appropriately to patient deterioration and emergencies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary theatre team.
- Right to work in the UK.
