Blueprint Recruitment are seeking an experienced Electrical Design Engineer / Technical Manager to join a growing engineering team. This is a key position responsible for leading the design, technical assurance, and delivery of electrical infrastructure projects across utility and private networks. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in ensuring designs meet industry standards, client requirements, and regulatory compliance, while providing technical leadership across multiple projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of electrical systems (typically 11kV–132kV)
- Produce and review detailed design packages including:
- Single Line Diagrams (SLDs)
- Protection and control schematics
- Cable calculations and layouts
- Earthing studies and design
- Provide technical oversight and approval of designs
- Act as the main technical interface with clients, network operators, and third-party stakeholders
- Ensure compliance with relevant standards (ENA, BS, IEC, etc.)
- Support project delivery teams with technical guidance and problem-solving
- Mentor and develop junior engineers within the team
- Contribute to continuous improvement of design processes and standards
Requirements
- Proven experience in electrical design within the UK power sector
- Strong background working on local distribution networks
- Previous experience working for an Independent Connection Provider (ICP)
- In-depth knowledge of UK grid connection processes and standards
- Familiarity with protection systems, substations, and distribution networks
- Experience using design tools such as AutoCAD, Amtech, ETAP, or similar
- Strong understanding of earthing design and electrical calculations
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
Desirable
- Experience in a technical leadership or managerial role
- Chartered Engineer status (or working towards)
- Knowledge of G81 standards and network operator-specific requirements
- Experience across renewable or infrastructure projects
