An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Mechanical Design Director to join a leading multidisciplinary engineering consultancy delivering some of the UK's largest water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
This role is ideal for an experienced technical leader who enjoys delivering complex engineering solutions while leading high-performing teams across major AMP programmes. You'll play a key role in shaping project delivery, mentoring engineers, developing client relationships and driving technical excellence across nationally significant water projects.
The successful candidate will lead multidisciplinary design teams, working closely with clients including major UK water authorities to deliver innovative mechanical engineering solutions across the full project lifecycle.
The Role
- Leading the mechanical design delivery of major water and wastewater infrastructure projects
- Managing multidisciplinary engineering teams across multiple programmes
- Providing technical leadership throughout the design lifecycle
- Overseeing the production and review of mechanical calculations, specifications, reports and design deliverables
- Managing project programmes, budgets and engineering resources
- Developing strong relationships with water sector clients and project stakeholders
- Supporting bid preparation, tender submissions and framework opportunities
- Mentoring and developing Mechanical Engineers across the business
- Driving continuous improvement, innovation and engineering best practice
- Ensuring compliance with relevant UK design standards, CDM regulations and industry legislation
This position offers the opportunity to influence the delivery of nationally significant water infrastructure projects while helping shape the future of mechanical engineering within a growing technical team.
What We're Looking For
We're looking for an experienced Mechanical Design Director with extensive experience delivering water sector projects. Ideally, you'll have:
- Previous experience as a Mechanical Design Director, Associate Director, Technical Director, Principal Mechanical Engineer or Mechanical Engineering Manager
- Strong leadership experience within a multidisciplinary engineering consultancy
- Extensive water and wastewater project experience
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status
- Proven experience leading large-scale mechanical design teams
- Strong knowledge of pumping systems, treatment processes and mechanical equipment used within water infrastructure
- Excellent communication, leadership and stakeholder management skills
- Experience supporting bids, client development and framework delivery
The following would be highly advantageous:
- Experience working across AMP programmes
- Knowledge of UK water industry standards and legislation
- Experience mentoring and developing engineering teams
- Strong commercial awareness and client management experience
