An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join a growing Building Services consultancy delivering technically challenging projects across the defence, education, nuclear and infrastructure sectors. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys designing innovative mechanical building services systems while working on complex, high-value projects from concept through to delivery.

You will join an experienced multidisciplinary team delivering projects ranging from major education developments to highly regulated defence and nuclear facilities. Whether you are an experienced Intermediate Mechanical Design Engineer ready to take the next step or a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer looking for greater flexibility and project responsibility, this role offers an excellent opportunity to develop your career.

The Role

  • Designing mechanical building services systems across a range of technically complex projects
  • Producing mechanical calculations, specifications and technical reports
  • Delivering projects through all key RIBA design stages
  • Working closely with electrical engineers, BIM professionals and project stakeholders
  • Attending client meetings, design reviews and technical workshops
  • Carrying out site surveys and inspections where required
  • Developing practical, coordinated engineering solutions
  • Ensuring designs comply with current regulations and industry standards

This position offers exposure to a diverse portfolio of projects across highly regulated and technically demanding sectors.

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer who enjoys working collaboratively and delivering high-quality engineering solutions. Ideally, you will have:

  • Previous experience as a Mechanical Design Engineer within a Building Services consultancy
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical building services design
  • Experience producing HVAC, ventilation, heating, cooling and public health designs
  • Good understanding of UK Building Regulations and relevant industry standards
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a multidisciplinary team

Experience across defence, nuclear, education, healthcare or other complex Building Services projects would be advantageous. Candidates must also be eligible to obtain Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance. For intermediate-level candidates, the ability to attend site surveys in the local area is essential.
