We are recruiting Catering Assistants to work within our catering front of house team. This will be a varied role that could involve waiting tables, assisting in the kitchen and preparing food and drinks, therefore excellent customer service and communication skills are essential. All training and uniform will be provided. A variety of shifts are available immediately. Weekend and Bank Holiday availability required.

Job Purpose: The Visitor Assistant will support with the preparation, presentation and service of catering products to the highest quality standards and provide an efficient, professional and welcoming service to customers.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Welcome visitors in a mature, approachable and helpful manner
  • Serve, sell to and assist customers in your designated outlet
  • Pro-actively identify customers’ needs and deal with any customer requests in a timely manner and exceed their expectations
  • Process customer sales in a polite and efficient manner
  • Ensure the outlet is well stocked for the day and that there are sufficient supplies throughout trading hours
  • Report any customer complaints or compliments and take some remedial action if at all possible
  • Impart vital information about a visit to the House and gardens, including events and our Friends membership scheme
  • Maintain a tidy, clean and neat environment at all times, to include cleaning and tidying of stock and fixtures as necessary and to the highest standards
  • Report immediately any incidents or accident, fire, theft, loss, damage, unfit food, or any other irregularities and take such action as may be appropriate or possible
  • In an emergency evacuate employees and visitors from your designated outlet
  • Be aware of the security of the outlets, stable courtyard, House and grounds and report any suspicious activity to a Manager or the Senior Manager on duty
  • Ensure that food is presented and served in a clean, hygienic environment
  • Ensure tables and accompaniments are left as clean as is reasonably practicable and adequately stocked during service times and relay as required
  • Wear the correct company uniform at all times and ensure that it is clean, well pressed and in good repair
  • Undertake any other duties that may be reasonable be required by the Manager or Supervisor on duty
  • Carry out all aspects of Food Hygiene and Health and Safety and operate in accordance with Castle Howard’s Health and Safety policies at all times.
