About The Position
As a Staff DevOps Engineer, you’ll take the lead in building and maintaining the cloud infrastructure that powers our products. You’ll be responsible for architecting, implementing, and optimizing scalable, secure, and high‑performance systems that support a dynamic and fast‑growing tech stack – from React and Next.js applications to Python data pipelines, orchestrated across a complex AWS ecosystem. This role combines traditional DevOps responsibilities with a strong focus on Release Engineering and infrastructure governance, ensuring reliable and scalable software delivery as we grow. You’ll work closely with cross‑functional teams, including engineers and product managers, to streamline development workflows, improve deployment reliability, and ensure system resilience and observability. As the team scales rapidly, you’ll play a key role in defining infrastructure standards, best practices, and policies that enable engineering teams to move fast while maintaining stability and security. You’ll also play a key role in driving information security and compliance initiatives across infrastructure and operations, ensuring that our systems are built with security and regulatory readiness from the ground up. This role is remote in the UK.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Design and maintain AWS infrastructure using best practices (e.g., IaC, security, cost optimization, monitoring).
- Define and implement infrastructure standards, policies, and governance (e.g., IAM, group permissions, access control).
- Develop, operate, and improve CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions and other tools to support fast and safe deployment of our applications and services.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to define infrastructure requirements and help shape deployment strategies for frontend and backend applications.
- Proactively monitor system performance, availability, and reliability. Implement observability tooling and incident response processes.
- Automate provisioning, scaling, and recovery of infrastructure using tools like Terraform.
- Identify and resolve infrastructure bottlenecks (e.g., database scaling, system performance constraints).
- Lead initiatives around infrastructure security and compliance, including access control, vulnerability management, secrets management, encryption, and audit readiness.
- Ensure systems meet relevant security and compliance standards (e.g., ISO 27001, SOC 2, GDPR), and support internal and external audits.
- Mentor engineers on DevOps best practices, advocate for clean and scalable infrastructure design, and help build a strong engineering culture.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in a DevOps, Site Reliability, or Infrastructure Engineering role, ideally in a startup or product‑focused environment.
- Deep expertise in AWS services (EC2, ECS, Lambda, RDS, S3, IAM, SQS, SNS, etc.) and cloud‑native architecture.
- Strong experience with CI/CD tools and practices, ideally GitHub Actions.
- Proficiency with infrastructure‑as‑code tools (Terraform) and scripting languages (Python, Bash).
- Familiarity with containerization (Docker) and orchestration (ECS/EKS/Kubernetes).
- Solid understanding of networking, security best practices, and system performance monitoring.
- Experience implementing and managing security controls and compliance requirements (e.g., ISO 27001, GDPR, SOC 2), including hands‑on work with identity management, encryption, and audit logging.
- Experience supporting modern web stacks, especially applications built with React, Next.js, and Python‑based services.
