Bluebox Communications Ltd is looking for an experienced Telecoms, VoIP and Cabling Engineer to join our team. This is a varied role combining remote helpdesk support with on-site installation work across the North West. The ideal candidate will already have practical experience working with VoIP phone systems, structured cabling, Wi-Fi and business network environments. We are looking for someone with a hands-on approach who is comfortable dealing directly with customers, solving technical issues, and working as part of a small but busy team. The role would suit someone with at least 2 years’ experience in a similar telecoms, VoIP, networking or cabling position.
Key Responsibilities
- Providing remote support to business customers for telecoms, VoIP and network-related issues
- Supporting and troubleshooting VoIP phone systems
- Installing, configuring and supporting 3CX and other hosted phone systems
- Installing and configuring VoIP handsets and related equipment
- Installing, terminating, testing and labelling Cat5e/Cat6 structured cabling
- Installing and configuring Wi-Fi access points, PoE switches and basic network equipment
- Assisting with broadband, router and network troubleshooting
- Attending customer sites to complete installations, fault-finding and project work
- Carrying out cable testing, network cabinet tidying and patching work
- Liaising with colleagues to plan and complete customer projects effectively
- Keeping accurate records of work completed, time spent and any follow-up actions required
- Ensuring all work is completed neatly, safely and to a professional standard
Skills & Experience Required
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in a telecoms, VoIP, cabling or networking role
- Experience with VoIP phone system platforms
- Experience installing, terminating and testing Cat5e/Cat6 network cabling
- Good understanding of basic networking, including routers, switches, IP addressing, VLANs and Wi-Fi
- Experience installing and supporting business-grade Wi-Fi networks
- Ability to fault-find telecoms, VoIP and network-related issues both remotely and on site
- Comfortable using hand tools, cable testers and basic installation equipment
- Good communication skills and a professional manner with customers
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Good attention to detail and pride in completing work neatly and professionally
- Full UK driving licence preferred, as most on-site work will be across the North West
Desirable Skills
- Experience with VoIP/hosted platforms and handsets
- Experience with networking equipment
- Experience with fibre broadband, leased lines or SIP trunking
- Familiarity with network cabinets, patch panels, PoE switches and access points
- Previous experience working with SME business customers
About the Role
This is a varied position where no two days are the same. One day may involve helping customers remotely with a VoIP or network issue, while another may involve installing a new phone system, cabling a small office, fitting Wi-Fi access points or attending site to diagnose a fault. Most of the work will be within the North West, although occasional travel further afield may be required. We are looking for someone who is reliable, technically capable, keen to learn and happy to get stuck into both remote support and hands-on installation work.
