Preconstruction Manager (technical bias)

Are you a technically strong civil engineering professional looking to play a key role in securing and shaping major infrastructure projects?

We’re working with a leading specialist civil engineering and infrastructure contractor with an outstanding reputation for delivering complex projects across London and the South East. With a strong pipeline of secured work and continued business growth, they’re looking to appoint an experienced Technical Manager to join their Preconstruction team at their Central London office.

This is an excellent opportunity to influence major projects from the earliest stages, working alongside experienced bid, commercial and operational teams to develop innovative, practical and winning technical solutions.

The Projects

You’ll be involved in a diverse portfolio of civil engineering and infrastructure schemes, including:

  • Bulk Earthworks
  • Roads & Highways
  • Bridges
  • S278 Works
  • Deep Drainage
  • Hard Landscaping
  • Major Infrastructure Projects

The Role

As Technical Manager, you’ll provide technical leadership throughout the preconstruction and tender process, ensuring bids are commercially competitive, technically robust and fully deliverable.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Reviewing designs, specifications and tender documentation
  • Identifying technical risks, buildability issues and opportunities
  • Developing construction methodologies and engineering solutions
  • Supporting the preparation of high-quality bid submissions
  • Working closely with clients, consultants and internal delivery teams
  • Driving value engineering and innovative construction solutions
  • Providing technical guidance throughout the preconstruction process

About You

We’re looking for someone who combines strong technical knowledge with excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

You’ll ideally have:

  • Experience as a Technical Manager, Design Manager or in a similar technical leadership role
  • A strong background in civil engineering and infrastructure projects
  • Experience delivering or tendering roads, highways, bridges, earthworks, drainage and/or S278 works
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
