Are you an experienced Commercial Manager ready to take full ownership of a growing business unit and play a key role in its future success? This is a rare opportunity to join a leading £200m construction group as the No.1 Commercial lead for a specialist civil engineering division generating £30m in annual turnover. With a strong pipeline of secured work, an established reputation in the market, and ambitious plans for growth, the business is seeking a commercially astute leader who can drive performance, influence strategy, and help shape the division’s next phase of expansion.

The opportunity

Reporting directly to the Divisional Managing Director, you will lead all commercial operations across a portfolio of specialist civil engineering projects, ensuring strong financial performance while supporting the division’s long-term growth strategy. You will have genuine autonomy, strategic input, and the opportunity to build and develop a high-performing commercial team.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead all commercial activities across the division’s project portfolio
  • Drive profitability through effective cost management, forecasting and commercial controls
  • Oversee procurement, subcontract management, contract administration and risk management
  • Work closely with operational teams to maximise project performance and margin
  • Lead, mentor and develop the commercial team
  • Support strategic planning and business growth alongside the Divisional Managing Director
  • Build strong relationships with clients, supply chain partners and key stakeholders
  • Ensure robust commercial governance across all projects

About you

  • Proven experience as a Commercial Manager within civil engineering, infrastructure or specialist contracting
  • Strong leadership skills with a track record of managing and developing commercial teams
  • Excellent commercial acumen and ability to drive business performance
  • Strong knowledge of NEC contracts and commercial management best practice
  • Confident operating at senior management level and influencing key stakeholders
  • Ambitious, driven and motivated by the opportunity to make a significant impact
