We are seeking a Design Engineer (Mould Tooling) to work for an international manufacturing company based in Whitstable. This is a permanent position paying Β£40,000 to Β£50,000 pa annum, depending on experience. 37.5 hours pw. Working hours are Monday to Thursday; 8am to 4.30pm and Friday; 8am to 1.30pm. Based on site.

Purpose of the role:

  • To support the team in addressing immediate production stops by investigating, identifying root cause and implementing component and tooling design updates inline with manufacturability.
  • To advise on NPI projects supporting DFM / DFMEA for moulded part / tooling design.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Provide fast turnaround corrective actions for Process/Quality issues affecting production, and or customer concerns within the mould shop.
  • Collaborate with colleagues & cross functional teams across the business by providing moulding process & material knowledge in NPI /APQP project meetings.
  • Designs, verifies, prepares, and maintains detailed 3D models, technical design drawings, schematics or specifications for 3D moulded components and tooling using Computer Aided Design (CAD) software (currently Creo).
  • Able to optimise new component / mould tooling designs using simulation tools such as Moldex 3D.
  • Coordinates drawing and drawing control activities.
  • Interfaces as necessary with both internal and external customers during the mould design process / investigation and rectification process.
  • Provides a formal handover of designed product to the Manufacturing Process Engineering group, via pre-production process & design reviews.

Essential Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum BEng level qualification in Mechanical Engineering or Scientific subject.
  • Currently or working towards Chartered/Incorporated Engineer status and member of Professional Engineering Institution.
  • Minimum 3 years Design Engineering experience preferably in Automotive or Aerospace manufacturing industry – Moulded Component Bias.
  • Experienced using CREO or similar 3D CAD and product lifecycle management software.
  • Experience with simulation software to refine component/tooling design eg Moldex 3D.
  • Experience of design for manufacture and design for assembly.
