Blue Ventures is a marine conservation organisation that puts people first. We support coastal fishers in remote and rural communities to rebuild fisheries, restore ocean life and build lasting pathways to prosperity. Our work began two decades ago in Madagascar’s remote coastal communities and is growing globally. Across a dozen countries, we partner with traditional fishers and community organisations to design, scale, strengthen and sustain fisheries management at the community level, while advocating for reform and sharing best practices.
Role Summary
The Data Protection Officer (DPO) is responsible for ensuring Blue Ventures meets its obligations under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the UK Data Protection Act 2018. The statutory DPO will monitor compliance and data practices internally, serve as the primary contact for supervisory authorities and data subjects, and work closely with Legal, Compliance, Public Policy and Information Security teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor compliance and internal data practices to ensure adherence to GDPR/DPA 2018.
- Provide data-protection training for staff.
- Conduct data-protection impact assessments and internal audits.
- Act as the main liaison with supervisory authorities and individuals whose data is processed by the organisation.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and monitor policies and standards in line with UK GDPR and regional legislation.

- Location: Remote within the UK (applicable to other BV hubs with strong UK GDPR knowledge)
