The Company
Nestled in a picturesque rural setting just 40 miles from Edinburgh, this privately owned artisanal producer is entering an exciting phase of scale-up. With a passionate team of around 20 and a single-shift, five‑day‑a‑week operation, the business is committed to crafting high‑quality products while building the foundations for future growth. As demand continues to rise, they are now seeking an experienced Interim Technical Manager for 3-6 months to support and complement the existing Technical Manager during this crucial period of development. Fixed Term contract, 3 to 4 days per week - hybrid role.
The Role
This interim position focuses on delivering impactful, practical improvements across the site based on a completed gap assessment and clearly defined priority actions. Working to support the current Technical Manager, you will take ownership of strengthening technical standards, food safety systems, and audit readiness - helping move the site beyond BRC Start requirements. A significant part of the role involves coaching, supporting, and influencing the team to adopt and sustain new ways of working, ensuring that improvements are not only implemented but truly bedded in. This is a hands-on role where you’ll bring structure, clarity, and a calm, collaborative presence to a growing artisan site with big ambitions.
The Person
This role suits a seasoned Technical Manager or Senior Technical Specialist with strong food safety and compliance expertise, ideally gained within chilled, RTE or similarly high-risk product categories. You’ll be pragmatic, people-focused, and energised by SME environments where your influence is felt daily.
- You will bring:
- Experience delivering technical improvement plans, with the ability to take defined priorities and turn them into operational reality.
- Strong team‑building and relationship skills, able to read team dynamics, build trust quickly, and encourage positive engagement with new processes.
- A coaching style, helping colleagues understand the “why” behind requirements and strengthening competency across the site.
- Confidence with BRC and retailer standards, ensuring documentation, controls, and behaviours align with expectations.
- A practical, solutions‑based mindset, able to adapt best practice to a small, artisan operation.
- Clear communication and calm leadership, especially when guiding the team through change.
If you are motivated by making improvements happen on the ground - through people, structure and a supportive approach - this interim role offers the chance to make a visible and lasting impact.
