To further enhance their sensory capabilities, they are seeking an enthusiastic Panel Leader to join their team for a 12-month maternity cover position.

The Role
Reporting into the Lead Sensory and Consumer Scientist, you will be the driving force behind the success of the company\’s sensory panel. You will lead the team of sensory panellists, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of sensory data to support innovation and product development. This is a multifaceted role where you will be responsible for managing and inspiring the sensory panel, overseeing their training, performance, and development. You’ll also plan and coordinate sensory activities, ensuring they are aligned with business objectives.
In addition, you will collaborate with internal teams to ensure that sensory insights are integrated into the product development process and that all project work adheres to the company\’s ISO and legal requirements.
As part of this role, you will also oversee the activities of the Sensory Technician and manage the logistics of panel workload, ensuring timely delivery of sensory results. You’ll also play a key role in building and nurturing the employee sensory panel, creating a community of engaged tasters who can support the broader sensory function. Regular acuity screenings will be part of your responsibilities to ensure the panel’s ongoing precision.
The Person
The ideal candidate for this Panel Leader role will have a deep passion for sensory science and a strong track record of group leadership. You will need excellent organizational skills and an eye for detail, ensuring that all sensory activities are carried out to the highest standard. The ability to adapt to changing demands while maintaining a focus on scientific rigor is crucial.
A solid understanding of sensory science principles and methodologies is essential, and experience with sensory data capture software such as RedJade is highly desirable. You should have a minimum of an IFST Accredited qualification in Sensory Evaluation or equivalent industry experience. Familiarity with food safety concepts and food or beverage production techniques is also necessary.
Additionally, your ability to foster a collaborative and positive working environment will be key to ensuring the success of the sensory panel and its integration within the wider business.
