Overview

Join to apply for the Consultant Stroke Physician role at Blue Sky Marketing. The position is based in Winchester and is to replace a full‑time retiring colleague; less than full‑time and flexible working applications will be considered.

We are a progressive forward thinking department with a strong ethos of learning, collaboration and quality improvement. The Hampshire Hospitals Stroke team has been commended on various aspects of the service in recent years, particularly the hyperacute pathway with fast scanning times and a thrombolysis rate that has improved following participation in national initiatives.

Role and Responsibilities

  • The hyper-acute stroke unit, the acute stroke ward, and the stroke rehabilitation ward
  • A daily TIA clinic
  • Daily front door emergency department cover including reperfusion decisions
  • Outpatient stroke follow-up clinics
  • Participation in a 1 in 6 stroke on-call rota including weekend working

The role involves close collaboration with the advanced clinical stroke practitioner team, SCAS paramedics, and emergency department staff to enable rapid assessment and management of stroke patients, plus collaboration with neuroradiology and neurology colleagues to facilitate shared management of complex cases. Consultants also provide support to the wider rehabilitation MDT, the Early Supported Discharge team and the stroke research team. Each consultant is expected to take on a leadership role across the different domains of the business unit including outpatients, hyperacute pathways, imaging, governance, education and training.

Organisation and Team

The service is a key part of the Wessex Integrated Stroke Delivery Network. We have representation on hyperacute and rehab workstreams and lead on the regional education and workforce workstream. Our care is delivered across multiple sites: Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester and Andover War Memorial Hospital.

Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides medical and surgical services to a population of approximately 600,000 people and is accountable to its members through the governors. Our cultural ambition focuses on placing people at the heart of what we do, with emphasis on belonging, learning, improvement and excellence.

Requirements/Notes

The role includes rotational cover as described above and requires collaboration across multiple teams and services within the NHS Foundation Trust framework. Applicants should be prepared for involvement in leadership across the domains listed and contributing to continued service improvement and regional education initiatives.

We welcome applications from candidates seeking flexible working arrangements. The content reflects the description provided and has been refined to remove irrelevant postings and repetition while preserving core information.
