About Blue Oak Consulting

Blue Oak Consulting provides independent advisory on pricing, portfolio economics, capital allocation, and acquisition assumptions. We are not a traditional consulting firm focused on broad transformation programs or high level strategy decks. Instead, we interrogate specific commercial decisions where the financial stakes are high and the existing narrative is not sufficient. Our team looks past corporate language and transactional complexity to identify where value is leaking or capital is trapped. We work directly with client data to test whether the assumptions behind a growth plan actually hold under pressure. We are a small, principal led firm where the people who do the work are the ones accountable for results, maintaining complete honesty about whether the economics of a decision make sense.

About the Role

As a Reporting Specialist, you will work closely with our senior consultants to turn complex data sets into structured, readable reports. This position operates on a hybrid model, combining heads-down analysis with collaborative, in-person whiteboarding and review sessions. You will spend your time digging into spreadsheet models, validating financial records, and learning how to look past the surface level numbers of corporate reporting. This is a junior position where you will get immediate visibility into how high stake financial decisions are structured and evaluated.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Organizing and cleaning large data sets supplied by clients to prepare them for detailed economic analysis.
  • Building clean, logical reports and dashboards in Excel that highlight discrepancies between projected forecasts and actual results.
  • Verifying historical transactions and ledger data to ensure that key modeling assumptions are based on accurate figures.
  • Collaborating with senior team members during in-person hybrid sessions to translate financial models into clear slides and written documents.
  • Documenting the methodologies and sources used in our calculations to ensure our findings are thoroughly auditable.
  • Participating in internal review sessions where we test and critique our own draft reports before presenting them to clients.

What You Bring

  • A university degree or equivalent foundation in finance, economics, mathematics, or a related quantitative field.
  • High comfort with spreadsheet tools like Microsoft Excel, including a solid understanding of formulas, pivot tables, and data organization.
  • Strong attention to detail, especially when spotting inconsistencies in large tables of numbers or financial reports.
  • An inquisitive mindset and a willingness to ask questions when data does not seem to align.
  • Clear communication skills, both in writing and when explaining your findings during team meetings.
  • Ability to work effectively in a hybrid routine, balancing independent tasks at home with cooperative office days.

What the Role Offers

  • Attractive and competitive pay for an entry-level position in the market.
  • A structured hybrid working arrangement that balances focus time with direct team collaboration.
  • The opportunity to work directly alongside the principals of the firm, gaining mentorship that is rare in larger organizations.
  • Practical training in financial modeling, scenario analysis, and professional advisory methodologies.
  • A collaborative work environment where your structured findings directly shape major advice provided to top-tier financial clients.

Working at Blue Oak Consulting means joining a small group of professionals who value clarity, rigor, and independent thought. On this engagement with a major UK financial services group, your investigative reporting work will directly help stakeholders see past complicated corporate narratives to make sound economic choices. We focus on training our junior team members to think like partners, giving you a strong foundation in commercial analysis that will serve you throughout your career.
