About Blue Oak Consulting provides commercial advice where the answer is not obvious. We work with leadership teams to peel back the layers of strategy talk and look at the actual economics of a business. Our team is skeptical by nature. We look at pricing architectures, capital allocation, and fixed cost structures to find where value is leaking or where capital is trapped. We believe that most commercial questions arrive wrapped in language that obscures the real choices. Our job is to surface what the numbers are hiding and test whether assumptions actually hold under pressure. We do not just deliver presentations and walk away. We help clients understand downside risks and help them make decisions that remain viable even if the base case fails. We are a fully remote firm that values clear thinking and plain speaking.
The Role In this position, you will be responsible for the structural health of our projects. You are the person who ensures that the internal mechanics of a consulting engagement function correctly and that data flows efficiently between our team and the client. This is not a role for someone who wants to hide behind vague status updates. It is a role for someone who understands that a project only succeeds when the underlying information is organized and the deadlines are respected. You will work across various sectors, from software unit economics to manufacturing capacity, helping our team stay focused on the variables that drive the economic outcome. Your work allows our consultants to focus on high level analysis because they know the project framework is sound.
What You Will Do
- Coordinate data collection requests from clients to ensure our analysts have the raw numbers needed for modeling.
- Update project timelines based on actual progress rather than optimistic projections.
- Create concise summaries of internal meetings that highlight specific decisions made and remaining uncertainties.
- Audit project files to ensure all documentation adheres to our standards for logical consistency and factual accuracy.
- Monitor project budgets to identify where time is being spent versus where the most value is being found.
- Interface with our internal systems to maintain a single source of truth for all active consulting engagements.
What We Need From You
- A high level of comfort with numbers and the ability to spot inconsistencies in a report or spreadsheet.
- Excellent writing skills with a focus on brevity and clarity.
- The discipline to work independently in a fully remote environment without constant supervision.
- A skeptical mindset that asks why a process exists before simply following it.
- Strong organizational habits and the ability to manage multiple moving parts without losing track of details.
- Proficiency in standard tools for documentation and data organization and an ability to learn new software quickly.
What The Role Offers This is a full time, permanent position for an intern or entry level professional looking to understand the internals of commercial strategy. You will gain direct exposure to how leadership teams think about capital allocation and risk management. We work entirely remotely and emphasize performance over presence. You will be given real responsibility and will be expected to contribute to the logical rigor of our projects. We offer a direct working style where feedback is frequent and focused on the quality of the work. You will learn how to dismantle complex business problems and how to keep a project moving toward a verifiable conclusion.
Who Tends To Do Well Here The people who succeed at Blue Oak are those who value truth over comfort. We are looking for individuals who are bored by generic corporate talk and prefer to look at the numbers. You should be the kind of person who notices when a conclusion does not follow from the data provided. Success in this role means being the reliable backbone of a project. We appreciate directness and a quiet confidence in one's own logical reasoning. If you enjoy bringing order to complex situations and you prefer facts over assumptions, you will find our way of working very productive.
