Blue Oak Consulting is looking for a Web Developer Intern to help us translate complex financial logic into functional digital tools. This role involves supporting our advisory team as we review the commercial assumptions for a partner in the West Midlands, ensuring the digital interfaces we build can accurately reflect the financial stakes involved.

About Blue Oak Consulting

Blue Oak Consulting provides independent advisory on pricing, portfolio economics, capital allocation, and acquisition assumptions. We are not a traditional consulting firm focused on broad transformation programs or high level strategy decks. Instead, we interrogate specific commercial decisions where the financial stakes are high and the existing narrative is not sufficient. Our team looks past corporate language and P&L complexity to identify where value is leaking or capital is trapped. We work across sectors like software, manufacturing, and healthcare to test whether the assumptions behind a growth plan or an acquisition actually hold under pressure. We are a small, principal led firm where the people who do the work are the ones accountable for the results. We do not take transaction contingent fees, which allows us to be completely honest about whether the economics of a decision make sense. Our goal is to provide clarity through financial discipline and a healthy amount of skepticism. We stay through the execution phase because decisions that look sound in theory often fail when they meet real world friction.

The Role

In this position, you will work directly with our senior advisors to convert analytical models into accessible web applications. This is a fully remote role, allowing you to manage your technical tasks from your own environment while staying in constant communication with a team of financial experts. We do not build flashy marketing sites: we build logical, clean, and interactive tools that help our clients understand their own data. You will be responsible for the front end and basic back end logic of project specific dashboards and calculators.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Developing and maintaining internal web tools that visualize financial projections and pricing models.
  • Writing clean, documented code using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to support our advisory projects.
  • Assisting the team in building interactive calculators that test different growth scenarios for our clients.
  • Ensuring that all digital tools are functional, secure, and easy for non-technical users to navigate.
  • Collaborating with financial analysts to ensure that web interfaces accurately represent the underlying mathematical logic.
  • Troubleshooting technical issues within our project specific web environments.
  • Participating in remote team meetings to discuss the technical requirements of new client engagements.
  • Updating and refining existing web assets based on feedback from the principals.

What You Bring

  • Foundational knowledge of web development technologies, specifically HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript.
  • Familiarity with at least one modern framework or library, though a deep mastery is not required at this stage.
  • A strong interest in how data and financial concepts can be presented clearly through code.
  • An analytical mindset and an eye for detail, helping you catch errors in logic or layout.
  • The ability to explain technical concepts to colleagues who focus primarily on finance and economics.
  • Strong organizational skills and the discipline to work effectively in a fully remote setting.
  • Basic experience with version control systems like Git.
  • A proactive approach to learning new tools or languages as project needs evolve.

What We Offer

  • Full remote work flexibility, allowing you to work from a location that suits your productivity.
  • Direct mentorship from senior principals who are experts in financial advisory and commercial logic.
  • A professional environment free from corporate jargon and unnecessary meetings.
  • The opportunity to work on high stakes projects, including our current work with a partner in the West Midlands.
  • Hands on experience building tools that solve real world economic problems.
  • The position is a paid internship, offering a rate that is competitive for the current market and the specialized nature of our advisory work.

Working at Blue Oak Consulting means choosing clarity over complexity. We value people who are curious about how businesses actually function and who want to use their technical skills to provide honest, data driven insights. You will be part of a team that prizes intellectual honesty and practical results over high level presentations. This role is an opportunity to develop your skills as a developer while gaining a rare window into the financial mechanics of diverse industries.
