JOB PURPOSE
To manage, control and lead all aspects of the Newcastle business. Be accountable for the Operational, Commercial, Business Development and Financial delivery of the branch in line with the UK Business Plan.
KEY RESULTS AREA
- Deliver Revenue and Profit in line with the Branch Budget.
- Drive the Sales Team to generate sufficient enquiries in the targeted market sectors and secure orders within the specified margin range to deliver the budget.
- Health and Safety – strive to achieve on or below the targeted Total Incident Frequency Rate (TIFR) and Accident Frequency Rate (AFR).
- Ensuring that the Branch operates in compliance with relevant regulations, legislations and company processes, policies and best practices.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
OPERATIONS:
- Full P&L accountability for the respective business across the defined geographical area, controlling costs within agreed budgets. Lead the sales and operational teams to continuously improve and develop all aspects of their service offering. Focus on developing competency, improving efficiency and productivity in accordance with the business plan.
- Overall responsibility for the financial performance of the location covering scaffolding and hire and sales.
- Develop hire and sales customers and margins in line with the budget and business plan.
- Ensure all external operational teams are delivering their contracted services in line with customer expectations, in accordance with health and safety legislation and to budget.
- Feeding back to Commercial Manager on all events that affect the business commercially, ensuring all contracted works and variations are known and relayed back to the commercial team prior to being carried out, with sufficient amount of time for commercial to give instruction to proceed.
- Monitor labour allocation correctly, assisting with keeping the labour planner updated, ensuring that we commit to our clients once labour has been reviewed and capacity is available. Assist with the planning for labour requirements for weekend working and holiday cover. Utilise the labour as to what suits the business best.
HEALTH & SAFETY:
- Maintain and continuously improve a strong health & safety culture in line with both business and legislative guidelines.
- Ensure the businesses required Health and Safety reporting documents are maintained and submitted as required.
- Report all health and safety issues to SHEQ Director and SHEQ Management immediately.
SALES/CUSTOMERS:
- Establish target customer base develop into a stable and consistent platform.
- Ensure that a hire and sales customer base is developed and serviced to ensure repeat business.
- Hold weekly sales meetings and target sales team and Estimators with specific objectives in line with the business plan.
- Drive and lead regular reviews of the sales pipeline to ensure the business achieves the budgeted top line revenue. Control and conduct regular reviews of hire and sales quotations, project estimates and design proposals.
- Ensure suitable contract and customer vetting is completed for all new customers and contracts and the company is suitably protected in pre order/contract contractual negotiations.
- Strive to achieve the highest level of customer satisfaction and ensure all aspects of the business deliver on our customer’s requirements and deliver on their expectations.
- Drive and lead business development in sectors & applications aligned with the strategic business plan, utilising central support as and when required.
LEADERSHIP:
- Effectively lead and manage all staff, ensuring appraisals are carried out, personal development is achieved, and standards of discipline and personal conduct meet the company’s exacting standards.
- Lead, develop, coach, promote and where necessary recruit ‘best in class’ members of the team who will excel in their respective roles.
- Chair employee disciplinary and grievance hearings and make appropriate decisions.
QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE
- In depth knowledge of the scaffolding industry and able to demonstrate previous hands-on experience.
- Previous experience in Branch Management within the scaffolding/construction industry.
- Experience in managing a large, complex, labour intensive, customer-facing operation.
- Experience of successfully running a large profit and loss trading statement.
