JOB PURPOSE
- To compile estimates on how much it will cost to provide a client or potential client with the supply of products and services offered by the Company.
- To calculate how much a project is likely to cost and create budgets accordingly.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Examine and analyse tender documentation in order to prepare time, cost, materials and labour estimates.
- Assess cost effectiveness of products, projects or services, tracking actual costs relative to bids as the project develops.
- Consult with clients, suppliers, personnel in internal departments and site personnel to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.
- Confer with relevant personnel on changes and adjustments to cost estimates.
- Prepare estimates used by management for purposes such as planning, organising and scheduling work.
- Produce analytically priced Bill of Quantities.
- Prepare Preliminaries.
- Prepare estimates for use in selecting suppliers or subcontractors.
- Review material and labour requirements to decide whether it is more cost effective to produce or purchase components.
- Prepare cost and expenditure statements and other necessary documentation at regular intervals throughout the duration of the project.
- Conduct relevant reviews to develop and establish standard hour and related cost data or to effect cost reduction.
- Establish and maintain the tendering process and conduct negotiations.
- Ensure effective handover of tender to construction team.
- Maintain knowledge of current market trends, practices and products.
- Ensure all sensitive and confidential information is held and communicated in accordance with the Data Protection Act.
- Complete all administration tasks in a timely, accurate and legible manner.
- Work without supervision.
- Demonstrate a commitment to own personal development within the role.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Degree in Commercial Management or equivalent.
- Knowledge of MS Office, Excel, Project and Word, and the use of Conquest Estimating Software would be advantageous.
- Experience of Estimating in Construction Management / or the ability to quickly learn and understand the role of Estimator.
- Experience of managing budgets and plans.
- The ability to read and understand technical drawings and interpret their content and technical specification.
