ROLE PROFILE
The SHEQ Director – Industrial & Energy (IE) Europe provides strategic SHEQ leadership across BrandSafway’s IE Europe operations. This role ensures consistent application of BrandSafway’s Life-Saving Rules, Leading with Safety principles, and global SHEQ standards, supporting safe, compliant, and high-quality delivery of scaffolding, access, insulation, coatings, and related services across the IE Europe region. The role partners closely with Operations, Engineering, Commercial, and People & Culture teams to embed SHEQ into daily execution and to drive a strong, sustainable safety and quality culture throughout the region. Please note: Due to the nature of the role, the position can be based from anywhere in the UK subject to willingness to travel. This will include European locations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Strategic SHEQ Leadership
    • Develop, implement, and continuously improve the SHEQ strategy for IE Europe in alignment with BrandSafway’s global SHEQ framework and regional business objectives.
    • Act as a key member of the IE Europe leadership team, advising on SHEQ risks, performance, and continuous improvement initiatives.
    • Lead, develop, and align country and regional SHEQ teams across IE Europe, ensuring consistency while respecting local regulatory requirements.
  • Safety & Occupational Health
    • Champion BrandSafway’s Safety First / Zero Harm culture across all IE Europe operations.
    • Ensure full implementation and compliance with BrandSafway Life-Saving Rules, safe systems of work, and permit-to-work processes.
    • Oversee high-potential incident, serious injury, and near-miss investigations, ensuring robust root cause analysis and effective corrective actions.
    • Support operational leaders through visible field engagement, safety walks, toolbox talks, and leadership safety interactions.
  • Environmental Management
    • Lead environmental management systems in accordance with BrandSafway standards, ISO requirements, and country-specific legislation.
    • Drive continuous environmental improvement initiatives related to waste management, emissions reduction, energy efficiency, and sustainable project execution.
    • Support ESG, sustainability, and customer environmental reporting requirements across the IE Europe region.
  • Quality & Operational Excellence
    • Ensure Quality Management Systems are effectively implemented and maintained across IE Europe operations (e.g. ISO, client-specific standards).
    • Partner with Operations and Engineering to drive right-first-time delivery, compliance with engineering and execution standards, and continuous improvement.
    • Oversee internal and external audits, certifications, and customer quality requirements.
  • Governance, Compliance & Reporting
    • Ensure compliance with all applicable SHEQ legislation, regulatory requirements, and BrandSafway policies across IE Europe.
    • Establish and maintain SHEQ performance metrics, dashboards, and regular reporting for regional and global leadership.
    • Act as the primary regional interface with regulators, key customers, auditors, and external stakeholders on SHEQ matters.
  • Culture, Capability & Change
    • Strengthen a positive SHEQ culture by embedding accountability and ownership at all levels of the organization.
    • Build SHEQ capability through leadership development, training, and coaching within IE Europe operations.
    • Lead SHEQ-related aspects of organizational change, business growth, and integration activities within the region.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Safety, Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
  • Extensive SHEQ leadership experience within industrial services, access solutions, scaffolding, construction, energy, or petrochemical environments.
  • Strong knowledge of European and international SHEQ legislation, quality management systems, and ISO standards.
  • Proven ability to lead in a matrix, multi-country organization.
  • Strong influencing, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Fluency in English; additional European languages are an advantage.
  • Willingness to travel within the IE Europe region.
