Contract Salary range: £40,000 - £50,000

Hours: Full time, 35 hours per week. Standard working hours are Monday – Friday, 9am – 5pm

Contract: Permanent

Location: Somerset House, London, although flexible and hybrid working are encouraged

Blue Marine Foundation seeks to protect and restore life in the ocean. Our mission is to see at least 30 per cent of the ocean protected by 2030 and the whole ocean sustainably managed. We support low-impact fishing and equitable use of the ocean and address overfishing – one of the world’s biggest environmental challenges. The Role

We are seeking an experienced individual to join the International Projects team, reporting to the Projects Director. This exciting new role requires someone who can input and deliver the projects with a view to significantly increasing engagement and the reach of the project. You will:

  • play a pivotal role and catalyst for achieving Blue Marine’s strategic global vision of delivering 30/30
  • manage international projects and work with international NGOs
  • be responsible for developing and implementing Blue Marine’s international projects for the introduction of marine protected areas and sustainable models of fishing
  • Support International political engagement and advocacy and building relationships with key stakeholders
  • Provide technical support and scientific advice to Blue Legal, Blue Policy and Blue Media to provide an evidence-base to points of law, legal cases, policy work and associated campaigns and communications.
  • Provide technical support and advice to Blue Marine units and fundraising team for international projects
  • Assist in managing workflow, budgets and reporting for international projects
  • Support communication both internally and externally with units, project partners and funders
  • Aide identifying funding opportunities, writing proposals and securing funding
  • Write reports for funders and Blue Marine board meetings/newsletters/reviews
  • Represent Blue Marine at scientific, political and funding events including giving presentations
  • Attend internal and external meetings and carrying out presentations when required
  • Uphold Blue Marine’s values and always embody this behaviour internally and externally at all times

This list is not exhaustive, and the selected candidate will be required to undertake other relevant tasks from time to time.

Skills and experience required

Essential

  • Advanced degree in marine science, environmental science, conservation, or a related field
  • Significant proven experience in managing international environmental or conservation projects, ideally across multiple regions
  • Experience specifically working on marine protected areas (MPAs) or fisheries reform projects
  • Strong understanding of marine conservation, including marine protected areas and sustainable fisheries including familiarity with international environmental policy frameworks (e.g., global biodiversity targets such as 30x30)
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, and deliver complex projects on time and within budget
  • Experience working with international NGOs, governments, and key stakeholders
  • Excellent project management skills, including planning, workflow coordination, budgeting, and reporting
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences (scientific, political, and public)
  • Experience in policy, advocacy, or political engagement, particularly in environmental or marine contexts
  • Ability to provide technical and scientific input to support legal, policy, and communications work
  • Proven track record in fundraising, including identifying opportunities and writing successful grant proposals
  • Strong report writing and presentation skills, including producing reports for funders and senior stakeholders
  • High level of organisation, reliability, and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, international environment
  • Culturally sensitive manner
