Blue Legal are partnering with a leading international law firm who are recruiting for an External Communications Specialist to join their London office on a maternity cover basis. The role involves executing the firm’s media relations, social media, and communications strategies, including engaging with UK legal reporters, collaborating with lawyers and the global marketing team on PR initiatives, managing social media and website content, preparing awards submissions, running targeted email campaigns, and drafting internal communications.
The Responsibilities:
- Assist in planning and delivering public relations and communication strategies alongside senior members of the marketing and media teams.
- Develop and nurture relationships with leading journalists across the UK, coordinating interviews and tracking press coverage and opportunities.
- Produce and oversee content for the organisation’s social media accounts, while helping partners enhance their LinkedIn presence.
- Manage the distribution of marketing materials through the firm’s email platform and ensure contact databases are regularly updated.
- Prepare submissions for legal rankings, directories, and awards, and keep the website and lawyer profiles current.
- Draft internal updates and newsletters to share successes and promote engagement with key firm initiatives.
The Candidate:
- Degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, English, or a related field.
- Solid experience in media relations or communications—ideally within a law firm or professional services environment.
- Excellent writing, organisational, and technical skills, with proficiency in social media and email marketing tools.
- Proactive and independent professional with strong relationship-building abilities, existing UK media contacts, and the confidence to manage media relations while collaborating with global colleagues.
