A global Employment and Law Practice are recruiting for a Business Development Manager to join their office in Washington DC, USA. The role will involve being responsible for managing responses to proposals/pitches in partnership with attorneys and corporate Business Development team members, partnering with Business Development leadership to execute firmwide business, and responsibility for providing input into development of firm marketing materials. The ideal candidate will be a team player, extremely organised, and have strong grammatical efficiency.
The Responsibilities:
- Partner with Office Managing Shareholders and Practice Group Chairs to develop and execute strategic plans aimed at increasing awareness and revenue, including curriculum to enhance business development skills for attorneys.
- Identify and manage leads from events and initiatives, supporting attorneys throughout the entire sales cycle (lead, proposal, pitch, decision).
- Collaborate with the corporate BD team and attorneys to track and report on business development activities and outcomes, ensuring alignment with strategic goals.
- Understand and communicate the firm’s value proposition, services, and innovative offerings.
- Work with Business Insights, Knowledge Management, and other resources to stay informed on market trends in L&E law and related practice areas.
- Manage client and prospect relationships to ensure satisfaction, retention, and growth, ensuring alignment with the firm’s business development goals.
- Coordinate regional seminars, conference sponsorships, and build relationships with professional organisations and industry associations for speaking and referral opportunities.
- Provide MBD department orientations for new attorneys and staff, and support the creation of marketing materials for client development.
The Candidate:
- Has a Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Marketing, Communications or business-related areas/equivalent to the job experience.
- Minimum 7-8 years marketing and/or business development experience (preferably in a multi-office law firm environment or professional services environment)
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, able to collaborate effectively with attorneys, clients, staff, and vendors, while maintaining a professional and business-like image of the firm.
- Proactive, independent thinker with the ability to work on complex projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines with minimal guidance, while recommending alternative solutions when necessary.
- Flexibility to work remotely, travel as needed, and occasionally work outside regular hours; proficient in Microsoft Office, with additional CRM knowledge a plus.
