An established and growing multidisciplinary consultancy is seeking an Associate Director – Structures to join their senior leadership team. This is a key strategic appointment for an experienced structural engineer looking to combine technical excellence, team leadership and business development within a progressive and people-focused environment.
The role offers genuine influence over projects, people and the future direction of the structures team, working closely with Directors and senior stakeholders across the business.
The Role
As an Associate Director, you will take responsibility for leading and developing a structures team while maintaining hands‑on involvement in the delivery of high‑quality structural engineering services across a diverse project portfolio.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leadership & Business Contribution
- Build, lead and mentor a high‑performing structures team
- Support Directors in delivering business growth, productivity and long‑term strategy
- Develop and maintain strong client relationships, securing repeat and new business
- Contribute to senior management and board‑level discussions
- Play an active role in business development, networking and fee proposals
- Oversee and deliver structural engineering projects across multiple sectors
- Ensure high‑quality, technically robust designs, calculations and reports
- Manage project finances, resources, programmes and delivery to budget
- Maintain rigorous quality assurance and checking procedures
- Attend client meetings, site visits and design team reviews as required
- Design of foundations including strip, piled and raft solutions
- Superstructure design using reinforced concrete, steel and timber
- Inspections of existing structures and preparation of remedial reports
- Coordination with clients, contractors, consultants and statutory bodies
- National project involvement where required
- Line management responsibilities including recruitment, performance reviews and development planning
- Support employee wellbeing, engagement and retention
- Lead regular team meetings and one‑to‑one reviews
- Champion a collaborative, inclusive and professional team culture
About You
You will be an experienced Structural Engineer operating at Associate or Associate Director level, with a strong blend of technical capability, leadership experience and commercial awareness.
You will bring:
- Proven experience leading structural engineering teams and projects
- Strong knowledge of UK design standards, Building Regulations and CDM 2015
- Confidence working directly with clients and senior stakeholders
