We’re recruiting a Volunteer Coordinator for our Rehoming & Fostering Team in Suffolk. As Volunteer Coordinator, you’ll recruit, support, and inspire volunteers to enhance rehoming and fostering services, while promoting Blue Cross in the community and driving local volunteering initiatives.
About the role
The Volunteer Coordinator will recruit and support our volunteers in the local area, promote the benefits of volunteering, and raise awareness of our centre and Blue Cross. You will be responsible for recruiting and supporting a diverse team of volunteers across practical and administrative roles, working closely with the Centre Manager and Assistant Managers to integrate volunteers into the team and ensure a welcoming environment. You will build relationships with local communities and partners, promoting the benefits of volunteering to provide targeted support. The role is 2.5 days a week across a 2-week rota (Week 1: Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays; Week 2: Tuesdays, Thursdays). Occasional bank holiday and weekend work may be required.

You will be an excellent communicator with strong interpersonal skills, self-motivated, focused, creative and forward-thinking. You enjoy working with local volunteering events and national initiatives, collaborate effectively with all levels, and have the passion to ensure volunteers thrive. You are organised, flexible and analytical, able to work to targets and manage a diverse volunteer team. You possess resilience, emotional intelligence, empathy and pragmatic problem-solving skills.
Knowledge, skills, and experience
- Demonstrable experience of supervising or managing volunteers.
- Marketing recruitment campaigns for volunteer roles.
- Experience working with local communities and promoting volunteer opportunities.
- Relationship building with external stakeholders.
- Managing a bank of clients or volunteers.
- High standards of verbal and written communication.
- Experience in a client-focused environment delivering high satisfaction.
- Strong organisational, administrative and analytical skills – use of computerised systems.
- Recruitment and interviewing skills.
- Awareness of health and safety legislation.
- Current full driving licence.
- Understanding and applying Blue Cross values.
